We service a large variety of clients, including restaurants, hotels, country clubs, caterers, grocery stores and retail outlets. All our facilities are PrimusGFS certified and managed under a regulus food safety and safety program.
Job Summary:
The Food Safety Coordinator plays a pivotal role at our company in ensuring that our San Antonio facility is up to standards and in compliance with all food safety policies, procedures and regulatory criterion including current PrimusGFS code, good manufacturing practices, and compliance with the food safety modernization act (FSMA), FDA, CFIA regulations and or HACCP/HARPC.
Carries responsibility for the overall food safety and sanitation of our distribution operations. This is a hands-on role, and the food safety coordinator is expected to participate in the undertaking of the walkthroughs, meetings with warehouse team, regulatory visits, third-party audits, internal audits, supplier compliance, disciplinary actions, trainings, and other activities as part of the role. Ensures compliance with all company and industry system requirements.
Requirements
- Knowledge of HACCP principles and procedures – Preferably Certified
- Knowledge of food facility cleaning chemicals
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and policies
- Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical skills
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office and Internet applications
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- employee will be available to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend hours according to business needs.
- A minimum of 1-2 years' experience in the food industry related to food safety and sanitation protocols
- May assist with cleaning duties if business needs requires it
Responsibilities:
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees
- Perform monthly internal inspections and handle all 3rd party and regulatory audits with the support from the Corporate Food Safety Manager
- Distribute results to proper supervisors and follow up with corrective actions in a timely fashion
- Manage in-house and contracted microbiological testing laboratory including protocols, supplies, and budget
- Review and provide written follow-up on customer concerns/complaints
- Coordinate mock recalls on a semi-annual basis in collaboration with the Food Safety Management team
- Audit the plant sanitation process
- Evaluate and document the effectiveness of chemicals and procedures and communicate/follow through on corrective actions
- Manage the Pest Control program, and coordinate services with the pest control operator to ensure optimum program
- improving the food safety and quality assurance protocols
- Inspect and verify company compliance with relevant safety regulations
- Maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines
- Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings
- Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed
- Perform other work as required or assigned by management to support our operations
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to continuously stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle, and move/push/pull/lift items weighing from 25-75lbs safely and without difficulty
- Able to work in temperatures ranging from 0F- 80F (being mindful of the weather during the summer months)
- Have a full range of body motion
