The Onyx Research Data Platform organization is a major investment by GSK R&D and Digital & Tech, aimed at leveraging data, knowledge, and prediction to find new medicines. We are a full-stack shop consisting of product and portfolio leadership, data engineering, infrastructure and DevOps, data/metadata/knowledge platforms, and GenAI/AI/ML, compute, and analysis platforms.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director for our AI/ML, Compute, Infra & DevOps Platforms products. In this role, you will be responsible for developing the product strategy of our core developer platforms to meet the customer needs. You will combine technical depth, strategic vision, and leadership acumen—along with hands-on experience using industry-leading engineering, DevOps, and AI/ML tools—to drive the success of DevOps, infrastructure, and AI/ML platform products in a cutting-edge research and development setting.

You will partner closely with the leaders of Onyx's customer organizations in Research and AIML, along with the Onyx portfolio management and engineering function heads to deliver industry-leading solutions that power large compute, AIML modelling, GenAI/Agent-enabled applications. You will drive the product roadmap, guide product development initiatives, and ensure the successful launch and adoption of platforms by both engineering and scientific users. Together, you will facilitate joint planning and execution of the product roadmap, ensuring a balance between strategic development and customer-facing deliverables. You will also play a key role in devising, tracking, and publicizing metrics that measure the impact and performance of the products. Additionally, as the organization scales, you will be responsible for hiring, developing, and retaining a talented team of Product Managers who possess a deep understanding of the business areas, Onyx capabilities, and translate customer needs into requirements aligned with standard frameworks for both product and engineering development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive product strategy for our platform products, including AI/ML, GenAI, Compute/Analytics, Cloud/Physical Infrastructure, and DevOps platforms.

  • Roadmap Development: Define and prioritize features, enhancements, and functionalities based on user analysis, customer feedback, and business requirements.

  • Product Launch: Plan and oversee product launches, ensuring effective communication, documentation, and training.

  • Performance Measurement: Define key product metrics, establish monitoring systems, and regularly evaluate and report on performance.

  • Product Ambassador: Serve as an ambassador of the platforms, effectively communicating their value and benefits.

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of product managers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 8+ years of professional experience

  • 2+ years of experience with cloud-based product development or management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD + 4 years of experience; or Masters + 6 years of experience

  • Life science industry experience

  • Expertise in on-premises and cloud computing environments, modern software development practices, and widely used compute tools and cloud-based platforms.

  • Experience managing developer platforms, tools, and services.

  • Hands-on experience with DevOps and engineering tools (e.g., GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Proficiency with AI/ML and MLOps platforms (e.g., Databricks, Google Cloud Vertex AI, SageMaker).

  • Familiarity with generative AI technologies and frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, Google Gemini, Hugging Face Transformers).

  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing product strategies.

  • Ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams.

  • Strong analytical skills and customer-centric mindset.
