What you'll do

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Senior Government Product Quality Engineer to join our dynamic team in Tempe, AZ 

The Senior Government Product Quality Engineer oversees the quality of Viasat government programs from proposal through delivery including, requirement review, developing and implementing product assurance plans based on customer requirements, requirements compliance verification, product design and process approvals, nonconformance management, root cause analysis, risk management, supporting internal, regulatory and customer audits. This position will also coordinate quality assurance activities across the Viasat functional areas as well as with suppliers and contract manufacturers.

The day-to-day
  • Assess customer, military, and industry requirements to develop tailored Quality Plans for compliance.
  • Proactively participate in product development activities to ensure quality is designed in and lessons learned are applied.
  • Support program development meetings, KO, SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR and TRRs to ensure that the design complies with documented requirements, including verifying the development of program plans and the execution of Quality Readiness Reviews.
  • Review manufacturing processes for capability, readiness and ensure that the necessary controls, training and metrics are applied.
  • Implement inspections and tests for procured products from initial manufacturing through delivery assuring the quality of the product is achieved. 
  • Identify, control and disposition nonconforming materials and support material review board activities.
  • Drive failure analysis and root cause investigations assuring timely and effective corrective action.
  • Collect, analyze and report quality performance utilizing statistical and analytical tools and methods to support internal and external customers. 
  • Perform internal and supplier audits against product and process requirements and drive corrective action where applicable.
  • Manage ISO9001/AS9100 adherence audits; reviewing findings, reviewing Viasat procedures, and communicating status reports to upper management.
What you'll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar. Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of education. 
  • 7+ years of experience working with government/aerospace programs in a Quality Engineering Role.
  • Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work both independently, as part of a team and with Government Customers and Regulatory representatives.
  • Experience in a project led design and development environment, with emphasis on quality management of hardware design, mechanical design, software design and hardware production.
  • Analytical mindset to resolve internal and external quality issues and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
  • Working knowledge of PLM Tool (such as Agile) as well as ERP system (such as Oracle/SAP).
  • US Government position. US Citizenship required; capable of obtaining a security clearance up to TS/SCI to work classified programs.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

  • Application of statistical process control (SPC).
  • Training in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.
Salary range

$104, $164,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $129, $194,000.00/ annually
