Qualifications

  • 18 years or older
  • Minimum 6 ECE units, or enrolled in ECE courses
  • Assistant Teacher Permit or qualified
  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday (excluding major holidays), assigned 8 hour

shifts between 7:00 am – 6:00 pm

  • 350+ days of experience in a childcare setting, 3+ hours per day within 4 years
  • CPR and First Aid certified (may complete upon hire)
  • Provide TB and Physical Health clearance prior to hire and every 2 years thereafter
  • Submit proof of Immunizations for Influenza, Pertussis, and Measles
  • Fingerprint background check clearance through Community Care Licensing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Teacher Permit or qualified.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or other languages.
  • Training in NAEYC standards, PITC, Anti-Bias Curriculum, Emergent Curriculum, or

Reggio Emilia practices.

Position Summary

The YMCA Infant Assistant Teacher collaborates with the Lead Teacher to provide a safe,

nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children aged 0–30 months old.

This role ensures successful program delivery by implementing best practices in early

childhood education. As part of the teaching team, the Assistant Teacher supports classroom

activities, helps plan and lead scheduled lessons, and maintains a positive atmosphere. This

role involves working closely with lead teachers, site coordinators, and families to support

each child's development. The Assistant Teacher models appropriate behavior and fosters

respectful, supportive interactions with children and adults. All duties must comply with

Community Care Licensing regulations and follow the direction of the Lead

Teacher and Site Coordinator.

Job Responsibilities

Curriculum & Child Development

  • Assist teachers with preparing and planning lesson plans and daily activities for

children aged 0-2.5 years old.

  • Help with observing and documenting children's developmental progress, providing

tailored support as needed.

  • Stay updated on early childhood education best practices, including accreditation

standards.

  • Skilled in classroom management and implementing age-appropriate discipline

strategies to foster a positive and structured learning environment.

Classroom Leadership & Supervision

  • Act as the classroom lead in the absence of the Master Teacher or Lead Teacher.
  • Supervise daily classroom activities, ensuring consistency in routines and transitions.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with licensing standards and YMCA programming goals.
  • Enforce classroom policies to uphold children's safety and well-being.
  • Monitor indoor and outdoor spaces for safety and compliance with licensing

requirements.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Communicate daily with colleagues and families about relevant information (e.g.,

behaviors, incidents, and requests).

  • Report unresolved issues to the Site Coordinator or Child Development Director.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and training courses.

Collaboration & Program Improvement

  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher or Suite Coordinator to develop and implement

improvement plans.

  • Adhere to the assigned program schedule and follow all ECE program protocols.
  • Complete all mandatory ADP and Y – USA safety training before the first shift.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The position involves working in a classroom setting with children and staff. The Lead

Preschool Teacher should be able to engage in physical activities, including standing,

walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs. The role also requires effective communication

with parents, staff, and children in both individual and group settings. The work

environment includes managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic setting.

Salary Description

The hourly rate for this position is $28.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and
