Lower Elementary Co-Teacher (Ages 6-9)

Alyssum Montessori School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Montessori Lower Elementary Co-Teacher to join our learning community. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with one other Montessori Teacher to support a mixed-age classroom of students aged 6–9 years (Grades 1–3), fostering a child-centered environment rooted in the Montessori philosophy.

  • Collaborate with Co-Teacher to implement a Montessori-based curriculum aligned with the child's individual learning path.
  • Support academic, social, and emotional development of students in a mixed-age classroom.
  • Prepare and maintain an engaging, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Provide individualized and small-group lessons.
  • Observe and document student progress; assist in assessment and parent communication.
  • Foster a nurturing and respectful classroom culture that promotes independence and community.
  • Assist with classroom management, material preparation, and record keeping.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and professional development.
  • Supervise students during transitions, outdoor play, field trips, and lunch as needed.
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and a growth mindset among students and colleagues.
  • Support monthly Forest School.
  • Go on daily walks, with the students, in the downtown Fort Wayne area to the YMCA, Library and local Dance Collective

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in an educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to the Montessori philosophy and a student-centered approach.

Preferred:

  • Montessori Lower Elementary (6–9) Certification from a MACTE-accredited institution (AMS, AMI, IMC, etc.).
  • Prior classroom co-teaching or assistant teaching experience in a Montessori environment.
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38, $43,000.00 per year
