Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Molecular Technologist to serve as Technical Supervisor in our state-of-the-art molecular R&D lab. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in both microbiology and molecular techniques, with the qualifications to obtain Florida licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor.

In this role, you will lead technical operations, drive R&D projects, and ensure compliance with CLIA and Florida state regulations while fostering innovation in assay development and validation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical supervision for high-complexity molecular testing, including oversight of daily lab operations, quality control, and staff training in accordance with CLIA and Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel standards.

• Design, develop, and validate novel molecular assays (e.g., PCR, NGS, qPCR ATR FT-IR) for R&D applications in infectious diseases and biomarkers, integrating microbiological principles such as culture-based identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (scientists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians) to troubleshoot experiments, analyze data, and translate research findings into actionable protocols.

• Maintain laboratory compliance, including documentation for audits, proficiency testing, and instrument validation; ensure adherence to biosafety and quality management systems.

• Mentor junior technologists and contribute to protocol optimization, reagent development, and grant-funded research initiatives.

• Stay current with emerging technologies in molecular diagnostics and microbiology, presenting findings at internal meetings or scientific conferences.

Qualifications Required:

• Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field; Master's or Doctoral degree strongly preferred.

• At least 5 years of pertinent clinical or R&D laboratory experience, with a minimum of 2 years in molecular diagnostics (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, amplification, sequencing) and 2 years in microbiology (e.g., microbial culturing, identification, susceptibility testing).

• Current national certification eligible for Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor licensure in Microbiology (e.g., SM(ASCP)) and Molecular Pathology/Diagnostics (e.g., Molecular Diagnostics examination by ABB or CHS(ABHI)), with ability to complete 25 hours of Board-approved continuing education in supervision and administration.

• Proven track record of meeting CLIA high-complexity testing requirements, including experience in technical oversight and quality assurance.

• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS), statistical software, and molecular biology tools (e.g., Bio-Rad, Thermo Fisher platforms).

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D environment.

Preferred:

• Florida state licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor (or immediate eligibility to apply upon hire).

• Experience in R&D-specific projects, such as assay optimization for FDA submission or publication in peer-reviewed journals.

• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis and AI-driven molecular modeling.
