The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a highly skilled and strategic individual to help lead the future of Asset Management within the department. As an Asset Administrator, you will be a critical subject matter expert tasked with ensuring the long-term resilience, performance, and efficiency of Utah's transportation assets through data-driven investment strategies.
This is a leadership role focused on transforming how UDOT plans, invests in, and maintains its infrastructure. If you are passionate about life-cycle analysis, risk management, and institutionalizing strategic decision-making, we encourage you to apply.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
As the State Asset Manager, you will be the statewide expert responsible for developing and institutionalizing a strategic approach to transportation asset management. Your key responsibilities will include:
Strategy & Planning
Develop and help implement the Transportation Asset Management Plan.
- Be the statewide expert on asset allocations and strategic trade-offs.
- Lead the way in evaluating asset improvement, incorporating risk elements, and maturing decision-making trade-offs.
Institutionalize a strategic approach to asset management across the department.
Optimization & Performance
Develop cross-asset allocation tools to enable sound, optimized investment and resource allocation decisions.
- Balance decisions based on life-cycle costs, advanced analytics, and minimizing or eliminating risks.
- Develop and implement performance metrics to measure the health and efficiency of assigned assets.
Work to get assets into a cohesive system to help manage them effectively.
Collaboration & Coordination
Serve as the Asset Management group liaison with the ATOM team.
- Coordinate innovative approaches to analyzing, planning, investing, building, maintaining, and operating our assets.
Coordinate with other State Asset Management groups and regions, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
Data & Risk Management
Optimized Investment and Resource Allocation
- Help the Department with Proactive Risk Management
- Work so the Department can make Data-Driven Decisions
- Implement proactive risk management strategies to enhance the resilience of our assets.
- Create intelligent data transfer and analytical approaches to support data-driven decisions.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for the maintenance area, applying knowledge of assets dealt with in maintenance operations.
Minimum Qualifications
In order to qualify for this critical role, you must possess all of the following:
- Registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah.
- At least least four (4) years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.
- A comprehensive knowledge of transportation assets dealt with in maintenance operations
- Familiarity with the ATOM program

- Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Physical Requirements - Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
- Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
