Job Description:

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Architecture to lead our in-house architecture team in the design and delivery of multi-family and commercial real estate projects across our portfolio.

This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the architectural process from early design strategy through construction documentation and administration, ensuring alignment with development goals, project budgets, and long-term asset value. The ideal candidate is a licensed architect with deep experience in managing architectural teams, interfacing with internal development, construction, and leasing divisions, and delivering high-quality, buildable solutions at scale. This is a unique opportunity to shape the architectural vision within a vertically integrated real estate organization.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the in-house architectural team, providing strategic direction, technical oversight, and professional mentorship across all project types and phases.
  • Oversee the design and execution of multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial projects, ensuring alignment with development goals, cost constraints, and constructability standards.
  • Work closely with ownership to determine department priorities and processes.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including Development, Leasing, Construction, and Property Management to ensure seamless project delivery and responsiveness to business needs.
  • Establish and maintain architectural standards, processes, and quality control measures to drive efficiency and consistency across projects.
  • Guide zoning and code analysis, entitlement strategies, and coordination with municipalities, consultants, and contractors throughout New Jersey.
  • Oversee staffing, workload distribution, and hiring within the Architecture Department; manage external consultants when needed.
  • Serve as a senior representative of the Architecture team in executive meetings, project reviews, and portfolio planning discussions.
  • Monitor schedules, budgets, and deliverables for architectural scope across all active projects; anticipate risks and proactively implement solutions.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in design quality and delivery performance.
Qualifications
  • Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited program
  •  15+ years of progressive experience in architectural practice, with a focus on multi-family, mixed-use, or commercial development preferred.
  • Active license as a Registered Architect in the US, expected to obtain licensure in New Jersey if not already.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a leadership or senior management role, with experience supervising project teams and coordinating with executive leadership.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate both creative and business considerations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office Bluebeam, and Adobe Suite.
  • Ability to mentor staff, foster team cohesion, and promote a collaborative and accountable work culture.
