About This Role
The Nursing Home Organizer's role is to build a strong union in each union-nursing home by organizing members internally to win improved wages and working conditions through issue campaigns and contract campaigns, recruiting and developing workplace leaders, and building a strong, engaged union membership. The Nursing Home Organizer will also mobilize union members to participate in political action, statewide union leadership events, labor management committees, contract campaigns, contract enforcement work and chapter meetings. Typical monthly duties include nursing home visit within assigned turf, in-person and remote outreach to members, holding worksite union meetings, assisting with contract negotiations, recruiting & developing new member activists, mobilizing members to political or bargaining events, house calling workers during organizing drives and more.
Organizers in the Nursing Home Department mentor, coach, organize, inspire and activate nursing home union members and leaders. Internal union organizers are on the front-line of building membership strength, leadership development, recruitment to events, and coaching and training opportunities. Previous experience in union organizing or representation is highly desirable.
Location: Based out of Bellingham or Vancouver, WA office.
Essential Functions:
Organize a strong and visible union in each nursing home facility within assigned turf.Conduct worksite visits, membership outreach, monthly worksite meetings, maintain hand charts, leadership recruitment, job actions, political organizing and member activation. Build union strength in each worksite (membership, cope, leadership recruitment, worksite meeting turn-out, lobby days, bargaining, grievances, annual Leadership Conference, etc....) Identify worker concerns for issue organizing, grievances, bargaining and/or labor management meetings. Engage union members in workplace campaigns to win better wages, benefits and working conditions for nursing home workers via issue campaigns, bargaining, political action and labor management meetings. Recruit and activate member leaders in each nursing home. Takes responsibility for and pride in the outcomes and success of members, organizing team and program May be required to do political work for candidates and member political education as part of job duties.Other duties as assigned.Skills & Abilities:

Experience organizing low wage workers preferred but not required.Experience working with a labor union, progressive non-profit, community organization, advocacy group, political campaign or elected official is a plus.Knowledge and experience with Salesforce, Microsoft office and Teams is a plus.Typical Working Conditions: The typical working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Field-based position with frequent travel to nursing home worksites across assigned geographic areas.Regular in-person engagement with union members, leaders, and nursing home staff in varied workplace settings.Work performed in both office and field environments, including community spaces, member homes, and facilities.Flexible schedule required, including frequent evenings and weekends to meet campaign and member needs.Fast-paced, mission-driven work environment with shifting priorities and multiple concurrent campaigns.Regular use of phone, email, and virtual meeting platforms for communication and coordination.May be required work outside of normal business hours to include weekends, evenings, holidays, etc.Physical Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent driving and travel between multiple worksites, with occasional overnight stays.Extended periods of standing, walking, and talking during facility visits, meetings, and events.Regular use of standard office equipment (computer, phone, copier) and digital tools for reporting and communication.Occasional lifting or transport of materials up to 25 pounds (e.g., supplies, event materials, literature).Ability to navigate diverse worksite environments such as nursing homes, offices, and community event spaces.Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and maintain auto insurance.Compensation:
Providing current or previous salary information is optional and will not be factored into hiring decisions. Prospective Employees covered by the CBA can request a copy of the wage scale, the CBA, and any current relevant MOUs upon application to the position.
This position is full-time, exempt. This position is included in the Bargaining Unit. Pay ranges from $81,141 – $96,972 per year. Benefits include vacation, holiday, and sick leave benefits, fully employer paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance, defined benefit pension plan, and optional 401(k), WFH credit, pet insurance, and more.
