Overview

The Enterprise Systems Engineer III is responsible for leading enterprise-wide implementations, optimizing system performance, and providing advanced technical guidance for Windows Server, Citrix, Exchange, and virtualization platforms. This role builds upon Engineer II by taking ownership of major infrastructure projects, incident response leadership, and automation strategy development. The Engineer III is a technical leader, mentoring team members and driving system-wide improvements.

The Enterprise Systems Engineering team is responsible for all Windows servers and related technologies, including but not limited to VMware, Citrix, Exchange (Email), File Servers, Active Directory services, Group Policy, and hardware lifecycle management.



Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field (or equivalent experience). 4 years of experience in desktop, server, or network administration may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:

• (Preferred but Not Required): CompTIA Security+, ITIL 4 Foundation, Microsoft Windows Server Certification, Citrix CCA-V, VMware VCP-DCV.

Experience: 7+ years of experience with Windows technologies, including but not limited to:

• Ideally looking for experience in MS365 and Azure (preferred)


• Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, Exchange, IIS, DNS, DHCP.

• VMware vSphere, Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, PowerShell scripting, Group Policy Management.

• Enterprise infrastructure automation, security hardening, and compliance enforcement.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• System Administration: Expert-level proficiency in Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, Citrix, and VMware.

• Security & Compliance: Deep understanding of IAM, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

• Automation & Scripting: Advanced knowledge of PowerShell, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.

• Incident & Problem Management: Proven ability to lead Sev 1 and critical issue response efforts.

• Virtualization: Expertise in Citrix VDI and VMware enterprise implementations.

• Leadership & Collaboration: Strong ability to mentor junior team members and guide IT strategy.

• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Commitment to maintaining enterprise system documentation and technical knowledge base.

Technical Leadership & Strategy:


• Provides technical direction for large-scale Windows Server, Citrix, and VMware deployments.

• Develops long-term infrastructure strategies to ensure system scalability and performance.

• Leads enterprise-wide system migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.

• Establishes best practices for disaster recovery, high availability, and business continuity planning.

Incident Response & Problem Management:


• Serves as the primary escalation point for Sev 1 and critical infrastructure incidents.

• Conducts post-incident analysis and root cause resolution to prevent recurring issues.

• Implements proactive monitoring solutions to identify and mitigate performance risks.

System Monitoring & Performance Optimization:


• Develop and oversee enterprise-level monitoring strategies to ensure system performance and reliability.

• Lead the implementation and optimization of monitoring tools to detect and mitigate system issues proactively.

• Analyze system performance trends and provide recommendations for capacity planning and improvements.

• Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to optimize performance tuning and resource utilization.

• Lead root cause analysis efforts for performance issues, identifying long-term solutions.

• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance system monitoring and performance optimization.

Automation, Scripting & Process Improvement:


• Designs and implements automation frameworks to streamline server management and deployment.

• Develops complex PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform scripts to enhance system efficiency.

• Implements new technologies and automation tools for deployment.

Security, Compliance & Risk Management:


• Defines enterprise-wide security frameworks, IAM strategies, and compliance standards.

• Works with security teams to implement advanced threat detection and vulnerability mitigation.

• Regularly reviews and validates changes made by Level I & II engineers for compliance, security, and best practices, ensuring adherence to industry standards and enterprise policies.

Virtualization & Infrastructure Optimization:


• Leads the development of virtualization infrastructure strategies, ensuring scalability, security, and high availability while optimizing performance and cost efficiency.

• Develops automation frameworks, conducts capacity planning, and ensures high availability.

• Implements best practices for virtual machine provisioning, configuration, and performance tuning.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity:


• Design and implement enterprise backup and disaster recovery strategies.

• Define retention policies and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Lead disaster recovery testing and validation efforts.

• Optimize backup infrastructure, improve efficiency, and introduce automation.

• Establish best practices and governance for data protection and continuity.

• Collaborate with security teams to ensure backup security and compliance.

• Develop long-term disaster recovery and business continuity roadmaps.

• Oversee enterprise-wide resilience planning, ensuring minimal downtime in critical events.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:


• Develop and maintain enterprise-wide system documentation, ensuring alignment with compliance and industry best practices.

• Create advanced technical guides, whitepapers, and process improvement recommendations for IT leadership.

• Establish and enforce documentation standards across the Enterprise Systems Engineering team.

• Lead training sessions and internal workshops to upskill team members in advanced technologies and automation strategies.
