SUMMARY

The City of Charlotte's Department of General Services is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Project Manager to join the Consultant Project Management Program within the Engineering Services Division. This role is ideal for professionals who enjoy managing consultant-designed design projects, coordinating across departments, and delivering impactful transportation infrastructure for a growing city.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage consultant-designed transportation infrastructure projects from planning through design and construction.
  • Coordinate multi-departmental project teams, including Real Estate, Utilities, and Construction.
  • Develop scopes of work, manage contracts, review invoices, and oversee consultant performance.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the public, property owners, media, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure timely and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with state and federal agencies on projects with alternative funding sources.
  • Support public engagement and represent the City at community meetings and events.
  • Perform special assignments and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering principles throughout the project lifecycle
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); experience with project management tools is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering standards and practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in civil engineering, including geometric roadway and storm drainage design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in civil engineering or municipal Capital Investment projects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
