Position Summary
The Business Development Manager (BDM) at John S. Connor is responsible for generating and maintaining revenue by promoting the full suite of JSC services, including ocean and air freight forwarding, NVOCC services, customs brokerage, and related logistics solutions. This remote role focuses on business development in the designated region and works closely with the local Branch Manager and the national Director of Sales and Marketing. The BDM maintains strong client relationships, identifies new business opportunities, and drives revenue growth through strategic sales initiatives and client solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Identify, qualify, and pursue prospective accounts in designated region and surrounding areasDevelop and maintain a robust pipeline of potential and target accountsBuild and sustain strong relationships with existing customers to ensure retention and upsell opportunitiesConduct telemarketing, networking, and field-based outreach to identify new leadsPrepare and deliver proposals, presentations, and customized solutions to prospective clientsCollaborate with operations teams to ensure client needs are met and service excellence is achievedMaintain accurate records of sales activity, revenue, and client interactions in CRM or CargoWiseCommunicate professionally with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholdersSubmit timely sales reports, expense accounts, and related documentationAchieve and exceed established sales targets and call quotasDevelop marketing strategies and account penetration plans aligned with company objectivesStay informed of market trends, competitor activity, and industry developmentsRepresent John S. Connor in a professional and consultative mannerSupport the Branch Manager in identifying client needs and developing regional growth strategies QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in business or related field, or equivalent combination of skills, training, and experienceExperience
2–5 years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain sales preferredLess experienced candidates may be considered with a general understanding of shipping, logistics, and sales processesSkills and Abilities
Knowledge of international freight operations (air, ocean, NVOCC)Proven success in business development, client relationship management, and consultative sellingStrong written and verbal communication skillsSelf-starter with ability to work independently and collaborativelyProficiency in Microsoft Office and Google WorkspaceFamiliarity with transportation-related technology platforms and CRM systemsAbility to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a remote work environmentKnowledge of world geography, inland trucking, and freight market dynamicsAccess to reliable transportation and ability to travel locally for client meetingsAbility to think creatively and communicate effectively to motivate clients about company products and servicesFamiliarity with CargoWise or other Transportation Management Systems (TMS) Strategic mindset with analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAwareness of customs regulations and trade compliance issuesWhy Join Us?
