We're seeking a hands-on Cost Accounting Manager who thrives in a manufacturing setting, combining strong cost accounting expertise with full-cycle accounting ownership. This role will directly perform month-end close, account reconciliations, and cost analysis while overseeing AP/AR activities managed by supporting staff.

Position Overview

The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all cost and financial reporting across MPS's manufacturing operations. This includes maintaining the general ledger, performing reconciliations, analyzing production costs, and preparing monthly financial statements. The ideal candidate is both strategic and detail-oriented, comfortable diving into ERP data, resolving discrepancies, and providing actionable insights to leadership.

Objectives of the Role

  • Develop strategies to optimize product costing and maximize return on investment.
  • Lead and execute month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, variances, and trends to identify cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Prepare and maintain standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records and inventory transactions.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities through detailed cost and margin analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls while continuously improving accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting

  • Examine production costs to identify the most efficient methods of manufacturing.
  • Maintain and analyze standard costs; perform variance analysis (material usage, purchase price, labor, and overhead).
  • Prepare and reconcile COGM and COGS reports.
  • Research material costs and validate accuracy within the DBA Manufacturing ERP.
  • Reconcile inventory and WIP accounts, and oversee physical inventory counts.
  • Prepare audit reports and respond to external and internal audit requests.
  • Provide management with cost insights for pricing, new product introductions, and capital expenditures.

General Accounting

  • Perform full month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations (inventory, payroll, prepaid, and fixed assets).
  • Manage the general ledger and ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Generate financial statements and supporting schedules for management and external partners.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and working capital analysis.

Leadership & Oversight

  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll functions.
  • Establish accounting controls, policies, and best practices.
  • Support process improvements that reduce errors, improve reporting speed, and enhance internal transparency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and Management to ensure alignment between production and financial reporting.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • (10)+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years of cost accounting in a manufacturing a manufacturing or cost accounting environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, variance modeling).
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (DBA Manufacturing or similar).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, inventory management, and standard costing principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex reconciliations and close processes independently.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills with a high attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience in medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or cost control strategies.
  • Experience with cost audits, COGS forecasting, and margin analysis.
