We are a growing general contractor. Our projects range from commercial builds to complex tenant improvements. We're seeking a Senior Accountant to be a cornerstone in building a strong financial foundation as we scale. This role will bridge project accounting and company financial management and it's ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, evolving environment.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will oversee the full accounting cycle for multiple construction projects and company-level financials. This includes job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, subcontractor compliance, and financial analysis. The role requires a mix of hands-on accounting, systems improvement, and strategic financial insight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project job cost accounting, ensuring costs are coded accurately and tracked against budgets.
  • Prepare and maintain WIP schedules, including revenue recognition and percent-complete calculations.
  • Review and post AP invoices, subcontractor pay applications, and expense reports, ensuring compliance with lien waivers and insurance requirements.
  • Process AR billings for progress draws and change orders, and follow up on collections.
  • Reconcile project and general ledger accounts, including retention receivables and payables.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing, ensuring accuracy of accruals, allocations, and journal entries.
  • Generate and analyze financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with commentary on variances and trends.
  • Partner with project managers and superintendents to monitor job performance and provide real-time cost information.
  • Support the controller with budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
  • Maintain and improve accounting systems, including integrations with project management software (e.g., Sage 100 Contractor, Foundation, or similar).
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and construction accounting best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 in construction accounting.
  • Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and WIP reporting.
  • Experience with Sage 100 Contractor, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar software.
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data reconciliation).
  • Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially with project teams and management.
