OPERATING ROOM RN/PERIOPERATIVE NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities

  • Pre-operative:Prepare patients for surgery, answer questions, and help calm fears
  • Intra-operative:Assist surgeons by passing instruments and supplies, and monitor the patient's condition
  • Post-operative:Provide care and instructions, and manage complications
  • Operating room management:Maintain a safe and comfortable environment, and coordinate with other healthcare professionals

Training

  • Earn an associate degree
  • Pass the NCLEX-RN exam
  • Complete additional schooling and relevant certifications
  • Complete a training program, which can take 1424 weeks

Challenges

  • Balancing demanding schedules with personal commitments
  • Being available to work rotating shifts and on short notice for emergencies
