Electrical Estimator

Location: Rockford, IL

The electrical estimator position is responsible for thoroughly reviewing all project documentation received during the bid process, compiling a detailed takeoff, generating an accurate estimate, and preparing a well-written proposal. This position is not responsible for sales, nor is it responsible for generating bidding opportunities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in industrial and control-based estimating.

Required Skills and Experience:

• High School diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in construction related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years' experience with commercial and industrial electrical estimating required.
• Successful track record estimating and negotiating large, complex projects.
• Thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques and estimating software. Accubid preferred.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc.
• Knowledge and experience in managing multi-disciplined projects, a plus.
• Strong conceptual estimating skills with limited information.
• Understanding plans and specifications.
• Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
• Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects and teams concurrently.
• Organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Works seamlessly across internal and external teams in fast-paced environments with professionalism and positivity
• Comfortable learning new software platforms to track and organize project information.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning new software platforms

Essential Job Duties:

• Prepare Bid Documentation (10%) Collect, review, and organize project bid documents in accordance with established procedures upon receiving notice of bid opportunities.
• Coordinate Estimating Process (10%) Lead and coordinate all estimating activities for assigned bids, ensuring timely and accurate communication across project stakeholders.
• Develop Cost Estimates (20%) Prepare conceptual and detailed cost estimates for electrical construction projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
• Review Project Scope and Specifications (10%) Analyze drawings, specifications, and project requirements; attend pre-bid meetings to confirm scope and clarify technical details.
• Conduct Data and Cost Analysis (10%) Evaluate historical data, vendor and subcontractor pricing, labor productivity metrics, and previous project information to support estimate accuracy.
• Perform Material and Labor Takeoffs (15%) Utilize estimating software to generate accurate quantity takeoffs and associated cost breakdowns for the full project scope.
• Identify Project Risks (5%) Assess potential project risks and ensure cost contingencies and allowances are incorporated appropriately into the estimate.
• Prepare Complete Bid Packages (10%) Compile scope qualifications, pricing summaries, bid forms, and any required client documentation to ensure a complete and competitive submission.
• Support Change Order Pricing (5%) Prepare timely and accurate cost quotations for project changes and revisions as required.
• Maintain Estimating Records (5%) Maintain well-organized working documents and ensure bid logs and tracking tools are accurate and up to date.

Base Pay: $75, $115,000.00 per year
