The Project Engineer will play a critical role in designing and delivering innovative solutions for residential, commercial, and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. Working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, the Engineer is responsible for supporting the Solar Operations team, ensuring that plan sets are created accurately and on time, and providing technical expertise for the successful completion of projects. This role requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and working under tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Certification in Solar PV Design (NABCEP or equivalent), is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with local building codes, permitting, and utility regulations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.

  • Experience in solar PV system design, engineering, or technical support, especially in commercial and utility-scale solar projects.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV components, electrical systems, and installation processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and solar design tools.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, inverters, and battery storage integration.
  • Experience with system size optimization and production calculation tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with both PV equipment and electrical components from various manufacturers.

Responsibilities:

  • Site Survey Support:
  • Assist Solar Service Technicians by gathering information and ensuring completeness of solar site surveys for planset submissions.
  • Review all site photos, documents, and measurements to verify accuracy.
  • Plan set Management:
  • Order plansets within 24-48 hours after a completed site survey.
  • Review engineering plansets for errors, inaccuracies, and required revisions, ensuring corrections are made before approval and stamping.
  • Ensure necessary changes are made to plansets for compliance with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and utility companies.
  • Update system design layouts (panel layouts, array sizes) to address any obstacles or setbacks on the site.
  • Technical Modifications & Adjustments:
  • Recalculate system production estimates and make changes to system size or pricing as needed.
  • Adjust designs for customer-specific requests such as adding EV chargers, batteries, or generators.
  • Provide all required documentation, such as component spec sheets and as-built approval letters from the stamping engineer.
  • Collaboration & Troubleshooting:
  • Work closely with the Solar Operations Manager to ensure that all changes are properly communicated.
  • Support Greenlink team and contractors by answering technical and feasibility questions related to equipment compatibility, system design, and outbuilding scenarios.
  • Troubleshoot design and installation issues that arise during the commissioning process and assist with resolving any technical challenges.

Technical Support During Installation & Commissioning:

  • Offer guidance and technical support to installation crews regarding planset feasibility and component locations during the installation process.
  • Identify and address errors in designs or component placements that are discovered during the installation or commissioning stages.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, best practices, and trends in the solar industry to improve designs and installation processes.
  • Communicate relevant updates and changes to the team to enhance the overall technical capability and efficiency of the department.

Work Environment:

  • Collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Deliverables:

  • Timely preparation and order of detailed engineering drawings and specifications within the 24-48 hour timeline.
  • Effective support for troubleshooting and technical questions during the design, installation, and commissioning stages.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging solar technologies and best practices, contributing to ongoing process improvements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80, $95,000.00 per year
