Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing exceptional patient care within our optometry practice. You will assist the optometrist in various clinical tasks, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow while maintaining a high standard of patient service. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical office setting, possess strong communication skills, and be knowledgeable in medical terminology and procedures related to eye care.
Duties
- Conduct patient intake, including gathering medical history and performing preliminary assessments.
- Measure and record vital signs as necessary.
- Assist with various diagnostic tests and procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide support during eye examinations, including the use of optical equipment.
- Educate patients on proper eye care practices and post-examination instructions.
- Manage front desk responsibilities, including scheduling appointments and handling patient inquiries.
- Collaborate with the optometrist to ensure optimal patient flow and satisfaction.
- Assist in retail sales of eyewear products, utilizing retail math skills for transactions.
Skills
- Strong patient care skills with a focus on empathy and communication.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Experience with intake processes and recording vital signs accurately.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques to ensure safety during procedures.
- Previous optical experience or familiarity with ophthalmology practices is preferred.
- Medical office experience that includes understanding physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in using EMR systems such as Epic for maintaining medical records.
- Retail sales experience is beneficial for assisting patients with eyewear selections.
- Ability to perform basic medical coding and billing tasks as needed.
