Its academic programs are based on Christian values that promote scholarship, critical thinking, and meaningful worship for students in preparation for lives of leadership and service to the Church, the community, and the world at large. The University is located on a beautiful and historic campus only minutes from downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
Position Description
The Department of Computer and Information Sciences invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the level of Associate or Full Professor. The departmental mission is to develop and equip exceptional collaborators who impact the world through the transformative application of the computer and information sciences. The department offers undergraduate degrees in information systems, information technology, and computer science within the School of STEM and Health Sciences. In addition, joint graduate programs exist in collaboration with the School of Business and the Graduate School.
The responsibilities of the Chair of the Department encompass a wide range of administrative tasks (25%), academic responsibilities (70%), and service commitments (5%). Key duties include assisting the dean with academic planning, recommending faculty and staff, and coordinating curriculum design and maintenance. The chair also oversees the preparation of course syllabi, selection of textbooks, and manages the departmental budget. The chair facilitates student advising programs, conducts departmental meetings, maintains positive morale among faculty, and engages in recruitment efforts. The chair is tasked with evaluating instructional staff, promoting faculty development, and ensuring compliance with university policies. Ultimately, this role is vital in fostering a productive and supportive educational environment that meets the needs of students and faculty alike.
The primary foci are Christian mission alignment, teaching excellence, and administrative oversight. In collaboration with other faculty in the department and school, the candidate will develop and deliver innovative courses at the undergraduate level, with additional opportunities for graduate level professional teaching. The modality is primarily face-to-face, but fully online and hybrid opportunities exist. Responsibilities of all faculty include academic advising, engagement in community and professional groups, and serving on university committees. A passion for working with learners in the Christian higher education setting is essential.
Qualifications
A Ph.D., D.Sc., or D.B.A. degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, software engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data analytics, informatics, or closely related fields is preferred. The successful candidate will have content expertise, teaching passion, and administrative skills to lead the department and develop the creative minds and professional aspirations of undergraduate and graduate students in the computer and information sciences disciplines within the context of the Christian ethic.
The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Interested candidates who are in agreement with the mission and values of Trevecca Nazarene University and have a profession of faith in Jesus Christ should send an application, cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, statement of faith, and three letters of recommendation to:
