REVA is one of the largest fixed wing air ambulance operators globally and provides medical transport services on 24/7/365 continuous basis. The Chief Flight Nurse is a management level position, maintaining an active flight status and responsible for overseeing the medical flight crews and medical coordinators. The Chief Flight Nurse(s) provide leadership, manage team training, ensures safety and quality of care, efficiency and that highest standards are met on all transports. Currently there are (2) Chief Flight Nurses that split the day-to-day responsibilities.

Essential FunctionsandResponsibilitiesinclude the following:

  • Manages staff including the professional growth and development of direct reports, maximizing their efficiency, and responding to personnel matters in a professional and positive manner.

  • Provides leadership, consultation and collaboration with the Director of Medical Operations and other members of the medical management team to design, evaluate and improve patient care systems and processes.

  • Facilitates and monitors activities related to the delivery of patient care, ensuring evidence-based practice and minimum nursing/paramedic practice standards are achieved.

Manages the hiring process, onboard training, and continuing education for all medical personnel. Manages the orientation of new staff in collaboration with the medical management team.

  • Responsible to the Director of Medical Operations for all controlled substances inventory, ordering new stock, destruction of outdated stock, and the management and accounting for all controlled substances to meet US Drug Enforcement Agency regulations. Responsible for daily temperature checks on the refrigerators, daily refilling, and weekly counts.

Assign and ensure all full-time medical staff collateral duties are completed monthly.

  • Maintains an Active Flight Status, works varied shifts and covers fixed wing air ambulance call shifts as needed.

Provides 24 hour on-call Resource Management coverage on a rotational schedule.

Communicate with medical and executive management regularly on all flight issues.

  • Compiles the monthly staff schedule of all medical staff company-wide and ensures that enough numbers and skill mix of clinical staff are always available to staff flights, adjusting as needed. Ensures staff are utilizing PTO and SICK time throughout the year and on a day-to-day basis.

Provides annual performance review to designated medical staff and implements personnel goals.

Responsible for medical payroll. On a day-to-to basis the CFN will monitor and audit Paycom for payroll from the prior day's flights.

Manages the Medical Coordination. If staff need educated, counseled, or concerns addressed, the CFN will coordinate those conversations and meetings with the team.

Assists with the Director of Medical Compliance on any QA needs that need support. This role varies between the assistance of the medical chart QA's weekly, or assistance with annual audits in conjunction with both directors.

Responsible for Quarterly intubations and training required by NAAMTA, EURAMI and State standards. Responsible for AHA Certification teaching and management for all medical staff.

Responsible for supply and inventory management at all bases. Responsible for purchasing the supplies needed monthly. Each FT medical employee is responsible for a bag set and inventory. The CFN will coordinate with them on whatever is needed.

  • Responsible for durable equipment management. Responsible for annual PM and calibration. Responsible for coordinating the equipment being set up and sent out if needed for all durable equipment (ZOLL, HAMILTON, SAPPHIES, PACER, SUCTIONS, ISOLETTE, etc.)

  • Responsible for the management of the NICU program. Responsible for collaborating with Human Resources and working to build up the current NICU and PICU staff. Responsible for being the lead on evaluating NICU cases and making sure we have the appropriate staff on board the aircraft if the CFN is not taking the flight.

AdditionalJobRequirements

  • Provides professional input to the Director of Medical Operations regarding operational and capital budgets for the department.
  • Staff meeting participation. The CFN will be part of the staff meeting rotation in which a designated number of times a year they will be responsible for coordinating and holding the medical department staff meeting.

  • Provides other duties as required or assigned.

SupervisoryResponsibilities

This position has direct supervision of the medical crew that includes all: Flight Nurses, Flight Paramedics, Flight RT's, Flight Physicians and Medical Coordinators.

Education & Experience

  • Nursing Degree: Must possess a nursing degree, either an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Minimum of 5 years of ICU/ED/Trauma experience within the last 10 years.
  • Previous medical transport experience required.
  • Required to maintain an active passport.
  • Encouraged to have previous leadership experience in an ICU/ED/Trauma, or similar senior clinical role.
  • Drug Screen and a background investigation required.

  • Required to maintain the following certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, PHTLS
  • Strongly encouraged to have one of the following advanced specialty certifications: Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
