The Youth Program Coordinator is a dynamic and community-driven leader responsible for coordinating, implementing, and expanding IRC Oakland's youth programs within the Community Integration Department. This position combines program management, partnership development, and direct service delivery to ensure newcomer and refugee youth including Afghan and Spanish-speaking communities thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The Coordinator provides trauma-informed, strengths-based services that empower newcomer youth to overcome barriers and achieve educational and personal success. Acting as a primary point of contact between IRC, schools, and community partners, the Coordinator helps facilitate school enrollment, advocates for equitable access to resources, and supports smooth integration for students and families navigating complex systems.
Working closely with colleagues, educators, and local service providers, the Coordinator develops individualized support plans, conducts youth workshops, orientations, and enrichment activities, and connects participants to academic, social, and emotional supports. This role also leads efforts to strengthen community partnerships and expand programming that enhances youth engagement and family-school collaboration.
Reporting to the Community Integration Manager, the Coordinator oversees youth program operations, supervises staff, interns, and volunteers, and ensures all activities meet grant, contractual, and financial requirements. Program Leadership & Implementation
- Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of youth programming focused on academic enrichment, leadership development, mentoring, and life skills.
- Facilitate group workshops and youth engagement sessions on topics such as college readiness, digital literacy, mental wellness, and civic engagement.
- Ensure all services are trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally and linguistically responsive.
- Develop annual work plans and oversee progress toward deliverables, outcomes, and reporting timelines.
- Conduct needs assessments and use feedback to adapt programming to evolving youth and community needs.
Community Engagement & Partnership Development
- Actively build and sustain partnerships with schools, districts, community organizations, and local service providers to enhance youth opportunities.
- Represent IRC in school and community meetings, youth-serving coalitions, and collaborative initiatives.
- Initiate new outreach activities and pilot programs that expand youth engagement and access to resources.
- Engage parents and families through community workshops, orientations, and events promoting family-school connections.
Supervision & Team Coordination
- Supervise youth program staff, AmeriCorps members, interns, and volunteers; provide mentorship, guidance, and regular performance check-ins.
- Promote collaboration and communication across youth and community integration teams.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of youth-focused team members and volunteers.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and empowering work culture aligned with IRC's values.
Grants, Contracts & Financial Management
- Support the Community Integration Manager in reviewing youth-related grants and contracts for compliance and deliverables.
- Monitor program spending, procurement, and budget tracking to ensure responsible use of funds.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, attendance, and outcomes for grant reporting.
- Assist with funding proposals, renewals, success stories, and quarterly reports to funders.
Direct Client Services
- Conduct one-on-one or small-group sessions with youth to support academic goals, career exploration, and personal development.
- Provide referrals and resource navigation for families experiencing barriers to education or integration.
- Coordinate case management and follow-up for youth participants requiring additional support.
- Participate in community events and school-based activities to promote IRC youth services.
Key Working Relationships:

Collaborates With: Finance, Operations, Health & Wellness, Economic Empowerment, and Education teams; local schools and community organizations
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, Public Administration, or related field.
Work Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in youth development, education, or community-based programming.
- Experience delivering workshops and direct services to youth required.
- Demonstrated experience building community partnerships and managing or tracking grants and budgets.
- Experience supervising staff, interns, or volunteers preferred.
- Experience working with refugee, immigrant, or multicultural populations strongly preferred.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Self-starter with a go-getter attitude and proven ability to take initiative and drive results.
- Strong leadership, project management, and partnership-building skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills with diverse youth and families.
- Ability to balance program administration with direct service delivery.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and data management systems; familiarity with ETO or Salesforce preferred.
- Language Skills: Fluent in English; proficiency in Dari, Farsi, Pashto, or Spanish is a strong plus.
- Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and ability to travel throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
Working Environment:
- A combination of standard office environment, hybrid remote work, and field time at schools, community sites, and partner organizations within the Bay Area.
- May require occasional evening or weekend hours for workshops, events, or community engagement activities.

Compensation: (Pay Range: $75,369 - $77,700) Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
