Position Overview

The Senior Analyst, Market Risk Analytics will report to the Senior Manager, Market Risk Analytics and will be responsible for supporting market risk reporting and analysis across Invenergy's global renewable and thermal generation portfolio.  The role will identify, measure, and report on levels of market risk and analyze the market risk impacts of changing markets, positions, and/or strategies.  The role will be required to learn and develop a deep understanding of the Allegro ETRM system to model market risk scenarios, validate trade & valuation data, and generate analytical insights. The Senior Analyst will leverage advanced analytical skills to design, develop, and maintain scalable reporting solutions using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and DataBricks (utilizing SQL and Python skills) to deliver relevant market risk data to stakeholders and perform ad-hoc analysis to measure and optimize the market risk levels of Invenergy's thermal and renewable assets.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and stay apprised of global energy market trends, regulatory changes, and their impact on portfolio risk
  • Learn and fully comprehend the data architecture and risk models (e.g., Value-at-Risk, P&L) used in the Allegro ETRM system (SQL database) for trade capture, asset valuation, and risk metrics
  • Design, automate, and maintain scalable risk reporting solutions using advanced Excel workbooks, Power BI dashboards, and DataBricks to deliver timely and accurate risk reports
  • Report on various risk metrics across the portfolio to ensure market risk levels are fully understood, accurately captured, and challenged when necessary
  • Build and optimize DataBricks workflows to enable efficient big data processing for risk analytics and reporting purposes, serving as the primary point of contact on the Market Risk Analytics team for all DataBricks-related initiatives
  • Collaborate with Risk and Trading Systems teams to ensure data integrity and pricing accuracy in market risk models and asset valuation processes
  • Partner with business and IT stakeholders to address bug fixes and implement enhancements to the ETRM system, ensuring alignment with risk management requirements and operational efficiency
  • Prepare ad-hoc forecasts and analyses as needed
  • Participate in other projects related to market risk management and reporting as requested

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or Statistics
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical/quantitative role, with a strong focus on market risk analysis, data modeling, or financial analytics
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving abilities, with experience in risk metrics like VaR, volatility, and correlation
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for complex modeling and data manipulation (e.g., macros, VBA)
  • Strong proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or similar for dashboard creation and troubleshooting
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL programming experience required for querying databases and integrating data into risk models and reports
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, data-driven environment and effectively collaborate within cross-functional teams
  • High attention to detail with a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
  • Experience in energy, utilities, or related industry, preferably in a trading environment, with hands-on use of Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems such as Allegro
  • Familiarity with derivatives, hedging instruments, and the dynamics of commodity and energy markets
  • Basic to Intermediate Python programming skills for data analysis, scripting, and automation of risk models and reporting processes
  • Experience with DataBricks for building automated, scalable reporting pipelines and processing large datasets, with the expectation that proficiency can be developed on the job

Base Pay

USD Hourly
Bonus: 15%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
