Job Title: Senior Database Administrator (SQL Server)

Location: Columbia, SC (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week)

Duration: 36 Months (Long-term Contract)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our technical team. The selected candidate will play a key role in supporting mission-critical systems, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of SQL Server environments. This position involves direct collaboration with application teams and requires both deep technical expertise and strong mentoring capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide senior-level database support and guidance to internal development teams, with a focus on performance optimization, query tuning, and security best practices.
  • Design, implement, and maintain high-performance SQL Server databases, procedures, and functions that support evolving business and technical requirements.
  • Serve as a technical lead for database integration, migration, storage, and replication strategies.
  • Perform advanced SQL Server performance tuning, including wait statistics, Query Store analysis, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Monitor and maintain databases for availability, security, and performance through proactive alerting and telemetry.
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, and business analysts to ensure effective database design and deployment for new initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot complex performance and reliability issues, driving root cause analysis and permanent resolution.
  • Document processes, configurations, and issue resolutions; maintain operational runbooks and technical documentation.
  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum teams, supporting full lifecycle database operations — from build to deployment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, including installations, patching, upgrades, and backup/recovery validation.
  • Provide after-hours or weekend support for critical maintenance or production incidents as required.
  • Mentor junior database staff and developers on database best practices and performance analysis.

Additional Information
  • Work Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days onsite in Columbia, SC (No remote-only option).

  • Compensation: $60–$70/hour on W2 (based on experience).
