Staff Attorney - Project Manager

Residency Requirements: 

Washington D.C.: For all positions based in the Washington, D.C. office, residency within Washington D.C., Maryland or Virginia and within a reasonable commutable distance to the assigned office is required depending on the firm's discretion and the nature of the role.

Los Angeles and San Francisco Offices: For all positions based in the Los Angeles and San Francisco offices, residency within the state of California and within a reasonable commutable distance to the assigned office is required depending on the firm's discretion and the nature of the role.

Salary Range: $162, $187,000.00 *

*The salary range is the one that Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The salary range does not guarantee, obligate, nor set expectations of an applicant's wage in the event of hire.  The posted range is only one component of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP's Total Rewards package.

Staff Attorney - Project Managers provide strategic design and management for small to medium discovery and fact development projects and select portions of larger projects including, but not limited to, document collections, reviews and productions with an emphasis on issues associated with electronically stored information.  Staff Attorney - Project Managers use technological acumen and expertise in all major industry tools to manage projects and lead teams.  Staff Attorney - Project Managers used advanced knowledge of protocols to manage workflow for document analysis with responsiveness while utilizing privilege and confidentiality designations.  Staff Attorney - Project Managers are well-versed with analytics tools for use in discovery and fact analysis.

Staff Attorney - Project Managers work closely with clients, firm attorneys, other Staff Attorneys, legal specialists, paralegals, litigation interns, case clerks, and vendors to service the cases and projects to which they are assigned. These Staff Attorney - Project Managers interact regularly with other firm administrative and staff personnel. 

Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • All Fact Development & Review Staff Attorney functions.
  • Select and implement strategy and design discovery solutions for firm matters.
  • Manage projects, track and report on costs and progress.
  • Assist case team with custodian interviews.
  • Interact with and manage outside vendors.
  • Advanced facility with all major e-discovery technologies.
  • Lead teams of MTO and leased reviewers as necessary.
  • Mastery and implementation of MTO's best discovery practices.
  • Respond to work requests from LPS management on a variety of issues and special projects, including training and professional development, staff performance, prompt and complete timekeeping and program improvements.
  • Lead trial preparation support processes.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from a major, accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the CA bar, active and in good standing.
  • Flexibility to work long hours and travel on short notice when needed on behalf of the Firm.
  • Satisfy Fact Development & Review Staff attorney job qualifications.
  • A minimum of 5 years of complex litigation experience in a law firm, or equivalent emphasizing discovery project management.
  • Experience in discovery project design, implementation, supervision, budgeting and quality control.
  • Substantial experience in all aspects of litigation project management including litigation holds, early fact development and case assessment, collection, processing, culling strategies, document review, production and privilege logging.
  • Ability to articulate case (project) goals, objectives, deliverables, costs and deadlines; identify tasks, resources and schedule need to achieve objectives.
  • Fluency in the technical language of desktop and enterprise business information systems.
  • Strong organizational, reasoning and research skills; creativity; strong written and verbal communication abilities; good judgment; attention to detail; and initiative.
  • Flexibility, composure and the ability to prioritize and handle many urgent tasks and requests simultaneously with a high level of competence and accuracy; the ability to remain composed and professional under stressful circumstances; sensitivity to ethical and confidentiality requirements; strong customer service skills.
  • Team work, team-building and leadership experience.
  • Ability to work with little supervision, demonstrating initiative and sound judgment in seeking work, managing work load and in formulating and recommending projects or alternative ways to complete projects that will benefit the case/client.
