Job Summary
Regulatory professional who possesses extensive technical knowledge regarding rate design theory and practice in AEP's state jurisdictions or external We are seeking analytical and detail-oriented professionals to join our team in roles focused on cost of service, rate design, and pricing strategy. Ideal candidates will bring strong quantitative skills, a solid foundation in financial or economic analysis, and a curiosity about regulatory frameworks and pricing methodologies. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial modeling, data analysis, economics, accounting, or other related disciplines, and demonstrate the ability to apply these skills to complex regulatory and pricing challenges. While prior experience in the utility industry or with rate design is beneficial, it is not required — we value transferable skills and a willingness to learn. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful work that supports rate cases, cost recovery strategies, and innovative pricing solutions, with a particular focus on generation-related filings such as renewables and gas plants across diverse regulatory environments.

Job Description
What You'll Do:

  • Conduct cost-of-service and rate impact analyses for new generation resources, including renewables and gas plants.
  • Develop and refine pricing strategies and rate designs that support regulatory compliance, financial sustainability, and customer equity.
  • Build and maintain financial models and analytical tools to support filings, cost recovery strategies, and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and interpret data for regulatory filings, stakeholder presentations, and internal decision-making.
  • Monitor regulatory trends, market developments, and emerging technologies to inform pricing and cost allocation approaches.
  • Translate complex regulatory and financial concepts into clear, actionable insights for internal and external audiences.
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries, audits, and discovery requests, and contribute to the development of testimony and hearing preparation.
  • Lead or support projects that address regulatory challenges and promote innovative rate solutions across diverse jurisdictions.
  • Work independently on complex issues, applying sound judgment and analytical rigor to support strategic decisions.

What We're Looking For:
Education/Experience:
Regulatory Consultant Senior

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND 4 years relative field, operations or analytical experience OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university AND 8 years relative field, operations or analytical experience OR High School diploma or GED AND 10 years relative field, operations or analytical experience.

Education/Experience:
Regulatory Consultant Principal

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND 6 years relative field, operations or analytical experience OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university AND 10 years relative field, operations or analytical experience OR High School diploma or GED AND 12 years relative field, operations or analytical experience.

Education/Experience:
Regulatory Consultant Staff

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND 8 years relative field, operations or analytical experience OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university AND 12 years relative field, operations or analytical experience OR High School diploma or GED AND 14 years relative field, operations or analytical experience.

Other Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Accounting or another applicable field.
  • Preferred: Advanced degree (e.g., MS, MBA).
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets is required.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate strategy and provide guidance to management and witnesses on case, are required.
  • Must possess analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully work with a diverse set of internal and external partners and all levels of the organization.
  • Occasional travel will be required, such as: to attend or testify at hearings, to support witnesses at hearings, to participate in Commission Staff and/or stakeholder meetings/events, to advocate the Company's position in various federal, regional, or state venues, to attend training, etc.
