We are seeking a hands-on Senior Compliance Engineer with deep expertise in electrical safety standards, solar-to-grid inverters, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) for residential and C&I applications. In this role, you will collaborate closely with R&D, systems, and product engineering teams to ensure that our products meet all relevant safety, regulatory, and grid compliance requirements.

You will lead compliance efforts from concept through certification, applying expert knowledge of UL, CSA, IEC, FCC, NFPA, and IEEE standards to streamline product development and uphold the highest levels of safety, reliability, and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive product compliance with applicable local and international regulatory codes and relevant standards.
  • Act as the primary interface with NRTLs and other certification agencies to ensure timely certification.
  • Perform risk assessments and technical evaluations to identify compliance issues and propose corrective actions or design changes as necessary.
  • Monitor and interpret evolving global standards & regulations and promptly communicate implications and recommended design actions to internal teams.
  • Collaborate with design engineers early in the product lifecycle to embed compliance into schematics, component selection, and system architecture.
  • Review designs and test data to ensure adherence to relevant standards and best practices.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to develop and execute internal pre-compliance testing and maintain compliance test plans and design verification protocols.
  • Manage test documentation, reports, and certification submissions with external labs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve certification test failures in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Train internal teams on compliance requirements, standards, and best practices to foster a culture of compliance awareness.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits and inspections by regulatory authorities, and address any findings or non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Serve as the company's compliance subject matter expert (SME), guiding product, reliability, and quality teams.
  • Represent the company in industry standards committees, utility hearings, and regulatory forums to influence standards and codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5–10+ years of direct experience in electrical safety and compliance for power conversion, renewable energy, or energy storage products.
  • Working knowledge of UL and NFPA standards, and related CSA/IEC harmonized standards.
  • Proven experience managing product listings with NRTLs and navigating grid interconnection requirements for DER systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of leading design reviews and engaging with senior technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Track record of thriving in fast-paced, hardware-intensive product environments.

Preferred Experience

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Background in power electronics, high-voltage systems, or grid-tied renewable equipment.
  • Experience with international certification processes (CE marking, CB Scheme).
  • Exposure to medium-voltage systems (5–35 kV), switchgear, circuit breakers, or relays.
  • Integration of functional safety requirements into firmware and software development.
  • Participation in relevant codes and standards committees (UL, IEEE, IEC, FCC, NFPA, NEC, IFC and IRC, etc...)
