The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) seeks a Senior Director of Development for the College of Arts & Sciences on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Senior Director of Development is responsible for providing strategic leadership towards the development efforts within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Fundraising: Identify, solicit and steward alumni and friends to secure substantial philanthropic resources that will profoundly benefit the College of Arts and Sciences students and faculty, enabling the unit to reach its full potential. Annual goals will be set with the Executive Director each year, likely 100 meaningful meetings, $3 million in dollars raised, and 17 proposals delivered.
Stewardship and Administration: Manage an assigned donor portfolio of up to 90 constituents, including alumnae, parents, and friends. Partner with the Executive Director, Advancement and CAS leadership in campaign planning and execution of It Takes a Volunteer campaign. Partner with academic leadership consisting of 1 Executive Dean, 3 Divisional Deans, and 21 Department
Heads, to include travel, in cultivating and closing meaningful philanthropic investment in support of campaign priorities. Manage, coach, and lead three direct reports by analyzing year-to-date progress toward goals, prioritizing prospects and projects; approving personnel requests; managing individual budgets and corresponding travel plans, and additional duties as it relates to supervision.
Required Education and Experience
The candidate who fills the Senior Director of Development position is required to have:
Bachelor's degree
Proven successful track record of 7+ years' experience in major gift fundraising or a combination of major gift fundraising and annual giving, planned giving, volunteer management, stewardship, communications, or other Advancement related areas of work
2 or more years of experience in direct supervision role
Collaborative and motivated sales mentality with the ability to provide strategic leadership. Strong customer service orientation; strong oral and written communications skills; customer-centered thinking.
An individual with talents in leadership, collaboration, organization, and strategic thinking
Ability and willingness to travel extensively
A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.
Note - Candidates holding a graduate degree must have at least 5 years of experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
In addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:
Master's degree
Experience in and/or direct familiarity with capital campaigns, annual giving, and planned giving
Knowledge of fundraising databases
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and related software
Ability to serve a diverse constituency
