Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diagnosing and repairing a variety of heavy machinery, including excavators, dozers, loaders, etc. Majority of equipment is Caterpillar with some forestry equipment including Prinoth and Fecon.

This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and safely.

Essential Job Functions

  • Troubleshoot, test, repair and maintain construction equipment and vehicles. Majority of equipment is Caterpillar. Heavy equipment includes excavators, dozers, articulated rock trucks, loaders, skid steers, and compactors.
  • Operate equipment as needed to accurately diagnose and repair issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance on industrial equipment, including oil changes, brake repairs, and hydraulic system checks.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems effectively.
  • Read and interpret schematics and OEM manuals to ensure proper repair procedures are followed.
  • Have the experience and ability to determine the extent of the repair and the corrective action required.
  • Assess parts to determine cause of failure or reusability.
  • Perform minor welding, fabrication, and electric repairs.
  • Perform work in a variety of environments.
  • Maintain accurate records of service performed on all equipment.
  • Prioritize repairs to support business need.
  • Establish reasonable timelines for repairs.
  • Support a positive attitude and work environment.
  • Assure service truck is appropriately maintained and kept clean.
  • Have open communication with the Service Manager and perform other tasks as requested.
  • Service training will be available for mechanics to enhance their skills and continue education.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 3 years experience working as a mechanic in a dealership or service environment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, air brakes, alignment, hydraulics, suspension systems, and HVAC systems.
  • Must demonstrate troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time along with walking, climbing ladders and stairs, reaching, pulling, leaning, and twisting.
  • Must be able to work well independently or with others in a team environment.
  • Must be reliable, honest, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license.
  • Prefer CDL-A or willing to obtain CDL-A within the first 30 days of employment.
