Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics, Hotel & Restaurant Management, or Home Economics.
  • Recent experience in Food Management or related field (2 years minimum).
  • Safe SERV Certification and Safe SERV Trainer Certification.
  • Member of MSBO Food Service Committee or willing to become a member.
  • Strong organizational skills with a creative and energetic approach to leading; comfortable using digital tools and technology.

Job Goal:

To lead the food service team in providing high-quality, nutritious meals that are appealing, properly prepared, and safely served. The Supervisor fosters a positive, student-centered dining experience and motivates staff through respectful, supportive leadership. Knowledge of catering and banquet service is required, along with the flexibility to adapt in a dynamic school environment.

Director of Business, Superintendent

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage nutritious, appealing, and student-focused breakfast and lunch programs for over 1,300 students.
  • Design and test menus based on student preferences and feedback.
  • Plan, supervise, and evaluate all aspects of meal preparation and service to ensure alignment with USDA, state, and local nutrition standards, including full compliance with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) protocols and all applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Oversee catering and banquet services for district events.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and sanitation across all facilities.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment; coordinate repairs and recommend replacements as needed.
  • Oversee inventory management, ordering, and security of food, supplies, and equipment, ensuring proper receiving, rotation, and storage practices are consistently followed.
  • Complete all required reports for local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Report suspicions of neglect, abuse etc. as required by Board Policy and the State of Michigan.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations, ensuring the privacy and protection of student records and sensitive information.
  • Prepare and manage the department's annual budget in coordination with the Business Office.
  • Monitor food and supply costs, control waste, and ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Utilize district systems (e.g., Meal Magic, PowerSchool) for data management and reporting.
  • Process Free and Reduced Meal Applications per federal guidelines.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate food service staff; verify payroll and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide ongoing staff development and training in safety, sanitation, and service excellence.
  • Coordinate staffing and scheduling to ensure efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with staff, families, and advisory groups to support nutrition education and student wellness.
  • Communicate with families through menus, newsletters, and events to promote healthy eating.
  • Foster open, respectful communication with families, staff, and colleagues.
  • Visit school sites regularly to support staff and ensure program quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and interactions in accordance with district policies.
  • Implement and uphold district, school, and administrative policies with consistency and integrity.
  • Employees shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the district.
  • Employees shall properly implement Board Policy 3122, Policy 4122, and Policy 2260 on non-discrimination and shall comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, particularly Part 1 104 of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of CFR) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee, in alignment with district goals and policies.

Terms of Employment: **

  • 202 days (August – June)
  • 8.5 hours per day (includes 30-minute unpaid lunch).

Compensation: **

  • $54,188 - $61,390
  • Benefits and compensation in accordance with Administrator Benefit Booklet.

ADA Requirements:

  • Work is performed in a commercial kitchen and office environment.
  • Exposure to hot surfaces, steam, sharp utensils, and commercial kitchen equipment is routine.
  • Requires lifting and moving heavy pots, pans, trays, and carts.
  • Regular use of knives, mixers, ovens, and other electrical appliances.
  • Frequent interaction with students, staff, and vendors in a fast-paced setting.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Occasional exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels.
