OPS SHOP WORKER / LEON COUNTY (POSITION #

Duties & Responsibilities:
This position is assigned to the Support Services Section in the Division of Law Enforcement. The primary duty of this position is to provide basic installation and repair/maintenance of radio and related electronic law enforcement communications equipment for marine/terrestrial law enforcement patrol units at assigned division facilities or remote locations. This may include but is not limited to various types of 800MHz SLERS subscriber radios, VHF radios, PA/sirens, LE lighting, laptop computers, GPS, radar, propellers, marine engines, and other specialty equipment.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Install required law enforcement equipment to include radar units, radio systems and lighting accessories in new law enforcement patrol vessels/vehicles/specialty equipment to ready them for field deployment, making all necessary connections and field testing to ensure a quality and professional installation. Evaluating/diagnosing failed communications equipment or installed components using basic test equipment to pinpoint operational problems, system and/or equipment issues and recommending repair or replacement to ensure maximum effectiveness. Removing or assisting in the removal of electronic equipment, components, or other electronic equipment from mobile and marine law enforcement patrol units.
Maintain proficiency in the diagnoses, repair, maintenance and operation of all communications hardware, modifications and improvements used or installed in law enforcement equipment. Maintain familiarity with current diagnostic/maintenance manuals and technical literature on all equipment serviced and electronics test equipment used. Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work area. Provide and maintain hand tools as required to complete routine tasks associated with the position and is responsible for maintaining and safeguarding parts and supplies and inventory necessary to make routine repairs. Attend training seminars sponsored by the agency, equipment vendors, manufacturers and other entities as required. Complete all training and policy reviews assigned via PowerDMS in a timely manner. Follow all agency and division prescribed policies, procedures and guidelines, this includes but is not limited to the timely completion of timesheets. Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records for any part issued to their workstation. Demonstrate a positive work ethic and will proactively and positively interact with co-workers to ensure a productive working environment. The incumbent will maintain good communication with section management to ensure mutual goals are reached in support of the division's mission.

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
- Knowledge of procedures, techniques and equipment used for installing, maintaining and troubleshooting electronic and radio communications to a non-component level.
- Skilled in the use of basic test equipment.
- Skilled in the use of the tools and equipment used in the mechanical, electronic and electrical repairs of equipment.
- Ability to work on marine and land based mechanical and electrical/electronic equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete work assignments in a timely manner.
- Ability to maintain a clean, neat and safe workstation.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to use a computer.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must have experience as an installer for 12-volt electronics
- Must supply basic hand tools
- Must be eligible to operate heavy equipment such as a forklift.
- Must be able to lift objects weighing at least 70 pounds.
- Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles/vessels and trailers to install/repair equipment
