Company Overview
Aligned Orthopedic Partners (AOP) is a leading orthopedic management services organization (MSO) supporting a growing network of physician practices across multiple states. Backed by private equity, we provide centralized administrative and operational services that enable independent orthopedic groups to deliver exceptional patient care. Position Summary
The Senior Director of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) will serve as the operational architect and change agent for the company's revenue cycle function. This executive will lead a comprehensive turnaround effort across outsourced and internal RCM operations, focused on stabilizing cash flow, reducing AR aging, driving vendor accountability, and remediating denials and credit balances.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, data-driven RCM leader with deep orthopedic billing knowledge and proven experience managing outsourced RCM vendors—both onshore and offshore—within a PE-backed, multi-site physician platform.

Key Responsibilities
Turnaround Strategy & Cash Acceleration
- Co-develop and execute a 90–180 day stabilization plan focused on cash acceleration, AR cleanup, and denial recovery across both outsourced and internal workflows.
- Diagnose root causes of cash leakage, claim lag, credit balances, and payer underperformance, working closely with vendors to remediate gaps quickly.
- Partner with CFO and Controller to forecast, track, and communicate collections performance against turnaround targets, including weekly cash pacing and AR reduction goals.
________________________________________
Vendor Management & Outsourcing Oversight
- Serve as primary operational leader for outsourced RCM vendors, ensuring accountability to contractual SLAs, performance KPIs, and turnaround timelines.
- Implement a rigorous vendor governance structure including daily/weekly production meetings, monthly performance reviews, escalation protocols, and scorecards.
- Collaborate with vendors to standardize processes, eliminate manual workarounds, and drive measurable improvements in clean claim rate, lag days, denial resolution, and aged AR.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities and recommend strategic adjustments as needed to meet performance targets.
________________________________________
Operational Remediation
- Standardize patient registration, eligibility & benefit verification, prior authorization, charge capture, coding, billing, and follow-up protocols across the MSO, ensuring alignment between internal teams and vendor workflows.
- Enhance denial management and underpayment recovery, including root-cause analytics, escalation pathways, and structured appeal processes between vendor teams and internal leads.
- Drive AR clean-up, credit balance resolution, and lag-day reduction, ensuring both internal and vendor teams are aligned to daily/weekly targets.
- Partner with COO and regional directors to execute on necessary process improvements.
________________________________________
Payer Strategy & Compliance
- Act as senior escalation point for payer disputes and chronic denial issues, particularly orthopedic-specific challenges (e.g., implants, surgical bundles, global periods, workers' comp).
- Coordinate with contracting and compliance teams to address systemic underpayments and payer compliance gaps identified through vendor reporting.
- Ensure vendor processes adhere to federal/state billing regulations and payer rules during remediation and stabilization.
________________________________________
Team Leadership & Change Management
- Assess the internal RCM support structure (e.g., vendor management team, denial escalation specialists, posting QA, etc.) and realign roles to support vendor oversight effectively.
- Build a culture of accountability and transparency, with clear ownership between internal teams and vendors, daily huddles, KPI reviews, and escalation pathways.
- Provide hands-on coaching to both internal leads and vendor relationship managers during the turnaround period.
________________________________________
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MHA) preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive RCM leadership experience, including at least 5 years in multi-site physician practice or MSO settings.
- Proven track record of turnaround leadership in outsourced RCM environments, with demonstrated improvements in cash collections, days in AR, denial rates, and credit balance resolution.
- Deep knowledge of orthopedic billing, surgical modifiers, implants, global periods, and payer rules.
- Direct experience selecting, managing, and holding outsourced RCM vendors accountable to performance KPIs and SLAs.
- Proficiency with RCM/PM systems (e.g., NextGen, Athena, Allscripts, Epic) and data visualization tools for vendor performance dashboards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills.
- Experienced in communicating with physicians on A/R performance.
