OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking motivated students currently enrolled in a high school, technical school, or community college drafting, design, or engineering program to join our paid Civil Designer Apprenticeship Program beginning Fall 2025 at our Denver, CO headquarters. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful client projects involving natural areas, infrastructure, land development, water systems, sustainable energy, and more—while gaining hands-on experience and one-on-one mentorship from seasoned professionals. The apprenticeship is designed to last approximately 18 months to 2 years, providing a strong foundation in civil engineering design and CAD drafting.

Pay range for this position is $ $23.17 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As an apprentice, you will:

  • Support small design teams in creating exhibits, plans, and construction documents.
  • Gain exposure to various engineering disciplines, including:
    • Site Civil Design
    • Water/Wastewater Systems
    • Process Piping
    • Erosion Control
    • Grading and Drainage
    • GIS Modeling
  • Work with design tools such as Civil 3D, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Receive direct mentorship from experienced designers and project leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce technical drawings and models using CAD software.
  • Assist in the preparation of civil construction design plans.
  • Create linework, annotations, legends, and notes based on input from senior designers.
  • Revise existing drawings and complete redlines.
  • Follow established CAD and project standards.
  • Complete assignments with guidance and quality checks from a mentor or supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 0-2 years of experience.
  • Must be pursuing an Associate Degree – Drafting/Design, Graphic Design or Technical College Certification or Equivalent Experience from high school CAD and engineering program.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with CAD software programs AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Experience with other solid modeling software such as CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, or CADWorx.
  • Understanding of basic drawing generation and layout.
