Opened in August of 2012, JoJo's Restaurant & Tap House quickly became a staple in Downtown Frederick. JoJo's offers a unique new-American style dining experience with both a casual dining room and cozy tap house. Our menu features 26 rotating beers on tap, and a full bar with an excellent selection of wine, whiskey, and craft cocktails. A private dining area is also available for those looking to host special events such as rehearsal dinners and business luncheons. JoJo's hosts a fantastic happy hour in the tap house. We are looking for a Food Runner and Bar Back to join our team.

Food Runner responsibilities include setting tables, serving food orders and removing used dishes and utensils. If you'd like to gain experience in the restaurant industry and learn how to provide an excellent dining experience, we'd like to meet you. To be considered for this role, you should be available to work various shifts, including weekends.

Ultimately, you will ensure our guests have a high-quality dining experience by serving their food in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibilities

• Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers' tables rapidly and accurately
• Act as the contact point between Front of the House and Back of the House staff
• Communicate food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities and special requests (e.g. food allergies)
• Assist the wait staff with table setting by fetching and placing appropriate tableware, eating utensils and napkins
• Ensure food is served in accordance with safety standards (e.g. proper temperature)
• Remove dirty dishes and utensils
• Answer guests' questions about ingredients and menu items
• Inform restaurant staff about customers' feedback or requests (e.g. when they ask for the check)

Food Runner responsibilities include:

• Delivering food orders from the kitchen to customers' tables rapidly and accurately
• Acting as the point of contact between Front of the House and Back of the House staff
• Communicating food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities (e.g. food allergies)

Requirements

• Experience as a Food Expeditor or similar entry-level role in a restaurant
• Understanding of hygiene and food safety rules
• Physical ability and stamina to carry heavy trays and stand for long hours
• Availability to work various shifts, including weekends
• Multi-tasking abilities
• Good oral communication skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced work environment

To be a successful bar back, you should be passionate about working as part of a team to deliver excellent drinks and service to customers. You should be efficient, reliable, and perceptive with excellent communication and time management skills.

Bar back Responsibilities:

• Assisting with opening and closing duties, such as restocking the bar with garnishes, straws, and napkins, ensuring that Bartenders have clean towels, glassware, etc.
• Ensuring bar is well-stocked with ice, liquor, wine, and beer.
• Checking taps and appliances to confirm that they are working properly, making minor repairs, or changing out kegs, if needed.

• Keeping the bar clean by wiping down surfaces, sweeping and mopping, removing soiled glassware, scrubbing coolers and storage areas, and emptying trash receptacles.

• Follow all cleaning and sanitizing procedures.

Barback Requirements:

• Minimum age to serve alcohol.
• Courteous, friendly personality and professional appearance.
• Knowledge of menu items, including beers, wines, cocktails, and liquors.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Strong problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to handle tense situations with coworkers and customers calmly and rationally.
• Observant and thorough.
• Responsible, punctual.
• Ability to meet physical and scheduling demands of the position, including, walking, standing, or lifting heavy items for extended periods and working nights, weekends, and holidays.
