MERIT is a minimalist beauty brand that makes impossible to mess up products for a multi-generational community. Designed by makeup consumers — not artists — MERIT was created as the antidote to the overwhelming world of beauty. We simplify what it takes to get ready by creating only well-edited essentials that help you do more with less. With minimalism at its core, MERIT remains intentional in the products it creates, spending years perfecting every detail to ensure it's not just another product, but one that you can live with for years to come.

MERIT is looking for a proactive and detail-driven Staff Accountant to join our dynamic Finance and Accounting team. In this role, you'll take ownership of key accounting functions—from Accounts Receivable and reconciliations to journal entries and month-end close. You'll work cross-functionally to ensure accurate financial reporting, streamline processes, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Own Accounts Receivable and order to cash reconciliation, including AR aging reports with accurate status updates; communicate with appropriate stakeholders within the organization
  • Assist with overseeing the Accounts Payable inbox and processing vendor invoices
  • Prepare and record journal entries to ensure accurate financial data
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to support financial reporting processes
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to organize, analyze, and present financial data effectively
  • Assist in the month-end close processes for assigned areas, including daily interaction with internal and external stakeholders
  • Regularly maintain treasury reconciliations, including cash, cash equivalents, and clearing accounts
  • Responsible for other detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • Assist in managing the corporate card program, including monthly spend analysis
  • Report, manage, and analyze employee expense reimbursements
  • Monitor, communicate, and resolve accounting issues promptly to maintain operating efficiency
  • Work closely with other departments to help identify and implement financial process improvements
  • Collaborate with team members to support audits and other financial reviews
  • Provide support in audit-related tasks, compliance activities, and other special projects and financial initiatives as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting or a related field
  • Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledgers
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis tools
  • NetSuite/Tipalti/Navan software experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong organizational skills, along with being flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • High attention to detail

MERIT is proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package in addition to compensation. The annual salary for this role is $73,000 - $83,000 in addition to bonus potential, stock options, a 401(k) match, health benefits, paid time off and more.
