Our challenge

We are seeking a skilled Kafka Admin to design, deploy, optimize, and maintain our enterprise search and data analytics platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in search engine architectures, data ingestion, and content management systems, ensuring our search solutions are scalable, reliable, and performant to support business-critical applications.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within New York City, NY is $110k - $130k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Confluent Kafka clusters within a highly available and scalable environment.
  • Perform Kafka upgrades and patching with minimal downtime, ensuring smooth and reliable transitions.
  • Administer and enforce security protocols, including access controls, encryption, and compliance standards to safeguard the Kafka platform.
  • Monitor cluster health and performance utilizing monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cluster-related incidents, including broker outages, replication lag, and data inconsistencies.
  • Develop, optimize, and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash) to streamline operational workflows and reduce manual intervention.
  • Assist in capacity planning, resource management, and performance tuning to support organizational growth and evolving business requirements.
  • Collaborate with Development and DevOps teams to ensure seamless integration and deployment processes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience managing Kafka clusters, preferably with the Confluent platform.
  • Strong expertise in Kafka administration, upgrades, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Proficient in Linux system administration.
  • Skilled in scripting languages such as Python and Bash for automation and operational efficiency.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Kafka or Confluent certification is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for Kafka deployment.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) in relation to Kafka deployment.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
