Program Director

The Program Director plays a vital leadership role in shaping the physical, social, and emotional well-being of youth ages 6–18 through high-quality sports, fitness, and healthy choices programming. This position oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs that promote healthy lifestyles, teamwork, and positive character development.
The Program Director provides direct supervision and mentorship to Youth Development Aides, Instructors, Coordinators, and volunteers, ensuring program excellence and alignment with SHH's mission and outcomes in Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, and Good Character & Citizenship. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, hands-on leader who enjoys being active, inspiring youth, and fostering an environment where all members can thrive physically and socially.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Program Leadership & Implementation
- Develop, coordinate, and lead engaging sports, recreation, and health-based programs (e.g., basketball, soccer, fitness, nutrition education, team-building activities) that align with SHH's mission and youth development outcomes.
- Establish program goals and performance standards focused on youth skill-building, sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal wellness.
- Supervise daily program operations to ensure safety, consistency, and quality of delivery across all sports and health-related activities.
- Promote inclusive participation by creating programs that meet the needs of diverse ages, abilities, and interests.
- Provide direct instruction, coaching, and mentorship to members, fostering positive habits around fitness, nutrition, and wellness.
- Ensure all program spaces and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and appropriately used.
- Evaluate and adapt programs based on member feedback, participation data, and emerging health and wellness trends.
- Manage program budgets responsibly, monitoring expenditures and ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
Staff & Volunteer Supervision
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise sports instructors, aides, and volunteers to deliver safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate programming.
- Provide coaching and feedback to staff to support their professional growth and strengthen program quality.
- Lead regular team meetings to ensure consistent communication, safety awareness, and alignment with organizational goals.
- Oversee accurate attendance, activity tracking, and program evaluation reports.
Member & Community Engagement
- Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy choices, teamwork, respect, and responsibility.
- Build strong relationships with members, parents, and community partners to encourage participation and program support.
- Collaborate with other program areas (Academic Success, Character & Citizenship, STEAM, etc.) to integrate healthy lifestyles across SHH initiatives.
- Enhance program visibility by updating schedules, posting announcements, and assisting with outreach and promotional efforts.
Other Duties
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and SHH-wide events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational success.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Education, Health/Physical Education, or a related field; or at least 5 years of equivalent experience leading youth recreation or sports programs.
- Experience planning and leading structured youth sports and health-based programs required.
- Act 33/34 and FBI clearances required (National Criminal Background Check, National Sex Offender Registry, PA Criminal Background Check, PATCH).
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (training provided on the job).
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Knowledge of positive youth development principles and inclusive coaching practices.
- Experience coordinating leagues, tournaments, or multi-sport activities.
- Proficient with technology including Microsoft Office, social media, and collaboration tools (Zoom, Confluence, etc.).
- Energetic, dependable, and committed to modeling healthy habits for youth.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $32, $55,000.00 per year
