Senior Human Resources Generalist

The Senior HR Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support in a fast-paced, industrial foundry environment. This role partners closely with operations, safety, and leadership teams to support employees across all levels of the organization. The Senior HR Generalist ensures compliance with employment laws and company policies, drives employee engagement, and supports workforce development, recruitment, and retention initiatives.
EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING REQUIRED OR PREFERRED
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 4+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, workplace safety, and employee relations.
- Experience managing FMLA/ADA, employee investigations, and HRIS systems (Paylocity, ADP, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence and build trust across all levels.
- Hands-on approach with strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and follow-through.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE REQUIRED
SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred. Candidates without certification must be willing to obtain it.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
- Conduct investigations and coach managers on appropriate actions in line with company policy and labor law.
- Support and lead employee recognition, engagement, and wellness initiatives to build morale and retention.
- Facilitate performance management processes, including progressive discipline and performance improvement plans.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Manage recruitment for hourly and salaried positions, from job posting through offer and onboarding.
- Partner with supervisors to forecast staffing needs and create strategies for hard-to-fill skilled trade roles.
- Coordinate new-hire orientations and ensure compliance with E-Verify, I-9 documentation, and onboarding checklists.
Training & Development
- Support training needs assessments and skills development programs.
- Partner with safety and production teams to track mandatory training (OSHA, PPE, lockout/tagout, etc.).
- Maintain accurate training records and help promote a culture of continuous learning.
Compensation, Benefits & Leave Administration
- Administer benefits programs, open enrollment, and employee changes in partnership with vendors.
- Manage FMLA, ADA, STD, and other leaves of absence in compliance with federal and state laws.
- Assist in compensation benchmarking and job evaluations to ensure pay equity and competitiveness.
Compliance & HR Operations
- Maintain and update personnel files, HRIS data, and reporting accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, EEOC, and MIOSHA.
- Participate in audits and support safety and environmental compliance efforts.
- Lead or assist with policy updates, employee handbook revisions, and HR process improvements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as the HR point of contact for Choice Machining in Benton Harbor, MI, providing on-site support up to one day per week.
- Provide virtual HR support as needed to ensure consistent communication and engagement across locations.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 per year
