Position Summary

This is a school-based position that focuses on the development and academic success of students. This position will assist students in the achievement of appropriate curricular goals that will develop knowledge and skills in the visual arts. The teacher guides students to express themselves creatively in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to their ages, and according to the national standards of visual art. Students develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations, and explore the role of art in diverse cultures through history.

Essential Functions:

  • To read and interpret each student's "Integrated Multidisciplinary Evaluation Report" from student Evaluation and Support Services.
  • To develop and implement an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for each student.
  • To develop and maintain appropriate and current records and reports.
  • To plan and deliver vibrant, engaging, and creative lesson using curriculum and materials that are aligned with Louisiana Standards for the Visual Arts.
  • To offer students an experience in a range of media, balancing free ideas with strict observational work.
  • To guide the individualized process of each student toward the achievement of curriculum goals in the Talented Visual Arts Program set by Audubon Schools and all applicable state and national guidelines.
  • Create an environment that is conducive to learning and enhances students' educational experience;
  • Analyze data from assessments and benchmark testing to drive instruction;
  • Meet those standards of performance for his/her individual teaching assignment developed by Audubon Schools. Those standards include the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching;
  • Adjust lesson plans to meet the needs of students in the classroom;
  • Guide the learning process of students in the classroom toward the achievement of curriculum goals set by Audubon Schools and/or appropriate federal guidelines;
  • Assist the administration in implementing all Board policies;
  • Achieve those objectives/activities included in the Professional Growth Plan developed jointly with the principal or assistant principal as part of the accountability process mandated by the State Legislature;
  • Consult with administrator(s), colleagues, students and/or parent on a regular basis;
  • Plan and supervise purposeful tasks for paraprofessional(s) and volunteer(s) assigned;
  • Cooperate with administrator and/or department head in assessing the performance of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) assigned;
  • Serve on and participate in professional staff committees/meetings required;
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor;
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures;
  • Performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

  • Design and develop comprehensive theatre curriculum aligned with grade-level standards and educational objectives.
  • Create lesson plans, activities, and projects that cater to the diverse needs and interests of students in K-8th grade.
  • Incorporate elements of drama, storytelling, improvisation, stagecraft, and other theatrical techniques into the curriculum.

Instructional Delivery:

  • Deliver dynamic and interactive theatre lessons that engage students and inspire their creativity.
  • Facilitate group discussions, rehearsals, and performances to enhance students' understanding of theatrical concepts and techniques.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to help students improve their acting skills and stage presence.

Production Management:

  • Organize and oversee school-wide theatrical productions, including selecting scripts, casting roles, and coordinating rehearsals.
  • Collaborate with students, staff, and volunteers to manage production logistics such as set design, costume creation, lighting, and sound.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment during rehearsals and performances, adhering to all relevant safety guidelines and protocols.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Assess student progress and performance through a variety of formative and summative assessment methods, such as performances, portfolios, and written assignments.
  • Provide timely feedback to students and parents/guardians regarding their academic and artistic growth in theatre.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and stakeholders to integrate theatre into interdisciplinary learning experiences and school-wide events.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding students' progress, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement in theatre activities.

Educational Background Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Teaching certification/license in Drama/Theatre Education (or eligible for certification).
  • Previous experience teaching drama/theatre to K-8th grade students.
  • Strong knowledge of theatre history, dramatic literature, acting techniques, and stagecraft.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire creativity, confidence, and collaboration in students.
  • Proficiency in using technology tools and resources to enhance theatre instruction.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52, $73,978.00 per year
