Portland, Oregon, United States LegitScript Full time $200,000 - $250,000 per year

Overview:

The VP, Commercial Contracting, will oversee and expand the global contracting function, driving operational excellence and enabling scalable growth. This leader will play a pivotal role in accelerating deal velocity, maintaining compliance, and optimizing risk management across complex enterprise SaaS agreements.

The VP will own the full commercial contracting lifecycle — from developing negotiation frameworks and standardizing processes to enhancing efficiency and collaboration. The role requires close partnership with Sales, Legal, Finance, and Product teams to align contracting strategy with broader business objectives.

The VP is a strategic and pragmatic leader who can effectively balance protecting the company's interests with delivering a seamless customer experience that supports revenue acceleration and long-term business growth.

What You'll Do:

  • Define and execute the company's global commercial contracting vision and strategy in partnership with COFO and CRO.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of contract managers, legal counsels, and deal desk professionals.
  • Partner with executive leadership to create scalable contracting policies aligned with revenue and compliance goals.
  • Oversee negotiation and execution of complex SaaS agreements, including MSAs, subscription agreements, SOWs, data processing addendums (DPAs), and strategic partnerships.
  • Establish playbooks and fallback positions to streamline negotiation while minimizing risk.
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success to accelerate deal closures without compromising key business protections.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the contracting process to increase velocity and scalability.
  • Implement technology solutions (e.g., CLM systems) to automate workflows and track contract performance.
  • Monitor and report on contract lifecycle metrics, such as cycle time, risk exposure, and revenue impact.
  • Develop and enforce risk frameworks to ensure compliance with privacy, data security, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA) in partnership with VP, Risk & Compliance.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on commercial risk, liabilities, and opportunities.
  • Partner with Compliance, Product, and Security teams on customer-facing contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with Finance on pricing terms, billing structures, and revenue recognition impacts.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives related to go-to-market strategy, partner ecosystems, and international expansion.

What You'll Bring:

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in commercial contracting, legal operations, or deal desk leadership within SaaS or enterprise technology companies
  • Proven success managing and negotiating complex enterprise agreements and strategic partnerships.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS business models, revenue recognition, and subscription-based contracts.
  • Expertise in privacy, data protection, and compliance obligations (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2).
  • Experience leading and scaling global teams, with a track record of process optimization.
  • Excellent business judgment, communication, and influence skills at the C-suite level.

In addition to competitive salaries, full-time employees enjoy a great benefits package:

  • Multiple Medical plans (one with $0 employee premium option), Dental & Vision plans
  • 401k with company match and immediate vesting
  • Generous paid time off package and 11 paid holidays
  • And much more
