Position Summary
The Project Engineer follows standard engineering procedures to direct the flow of engineering work and prepare deliverables. The Project Engineer coordinates structural engineering design with other design team members, provides input to the Project Manager regarding project planning and scheduling of project components and milestones, and keeps clear records of all design decisions, calculations and project related documentation.

Competencies
Engineering Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Develops knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, materials, and procedures within the field of structural engineering and how to apply to projects.
  • Performs field observations and inspections under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Conducts structural design and analysis using software tools including Revit and Rhino.
  • Understands how to approach the issues identified by senior teammates.
  • Implements approach on assigned areas of the project.
  • Understands the project's Design Criteria.
  • Gathers data as requested by supervisor.
  • Learns how to review shop drawings to identify any difference or error between shop drawings and design documents.
  • Reliably and accurately completes work with direction and supervision.
  • Knows basic codes and understands how codes impact design.
  • Clearly presents design results in graphic form to supervisor.
  • Maintains clear records of all design calculations and work products.
  • Assists in providing input to the Project Manager regarding project components that impact scheduling and project planning.
  • Ensures accuracy and precision with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Developing critical thinking and analytical skills by learning to assess situations and break issues into manageable parts, evaluate possible solutions and make informed decisions.

Communications Skills

  • Effectively communicates, both verbally and written, to ensure clear and efficient interactions with all parties including clients, teammates and management.
  • Writes accurate and clear summaries and correspondence for review by senior teammates.
  • Growing understanding of client and business relationship.
  • Limited interactions with clients are professional and respectful.
  • Assists in providing accurate and valuable input to teammates and management to maintain and cultivate client relationships.
  • Observes senior teammates run a meeting in a professional, effective manner.
  • Understands the importance of public speaking and delivering presentations in a logical, organized, professional manner and observes senior teammates.
  • Beginning to develop the ability to provide information and feedback, both positive and negative, to teammates and clients in a person-centric, fact-based, professional manner.

Business Development & Revenue Generation

  • Works with scope items and accurately charges own labor to proper project numbers.
  • Observes how senior team members provide input concerning project budgeting and collections.
  • Beginning to contribute to Business Development efforts through developing positive and professional client relationships.
  • Actively support the business with Business Development initiatives.

Teamwork And Leadership

  • Understands and complies with the company values and culture code.
  • Participates in developing effective motivational strategies and supports the team to achieve high performance and excellent outcomes.

Internal Operations

  • Complies with business requirements such as completion of timesheets, correct utilization of project codes, completion of required training.
  • Complies with Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, internally and on client sites, where applicable.
  • Work with other teams, including Shared Services, to ensure business goals and objectives are achieved.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and five (5) years of experience in design and analysis of mid to high rise buildings utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, and SAFE; or
  • Master's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and three (3) years of experience in design and analysis of mid to high rise buildings utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, and SAFE.
  • Three years of relevant experience in in analyzing building structures using computer modeling methods and preparing structural calculations.

Minimum (Required) Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
  • Experience working in Revit.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong interpersonal, problem solving and team skills.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Master's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) certification or PE (Professional Engineer) license.
  • Experience working in Grasshopper, a plus.

At DeSimone, we believe in transparency when it comes to salary and hourly rates for our job postings. Our pay range represents the range of salaries or hourly rates that we think, in good faith, we might be willing to pay, for the posted job in the specified location(s).
This position is classified as salaried, exempt. The hiring salary range for this role is anticipated to be $80,000-$100,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications.
For this particular position, we expect to hire near the middle of the range. To be considered for this role, we are looking for candidates with a Bachelor of Science in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and five (5) years of experience in design and analysis of mid to high rise buildings utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, and SAFE;
or
a Master's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and three (3) years of experience in design and analysis of mid to high rise buildings utilizing software packages such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, and SAFE.

We understand that there may be rare and exceptional circumstances where an external candidate has experience, credentials, or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position. In these cases, we may consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
