Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental materials, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly following infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during various procedures such as cleanings, restorations, endodontics, prosthodontics, and other general dentistry treatments by providing chairside support.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging technology, including 3D scanners when applicable, ensuring accurate positioning and patient comfort.
- Manage patient records efficiently using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, maintaining HIPAA compliance to protect patient confidentiality.
- Gather vital signs and medical history information to assist with treatment planning and ensure patient safety.
- Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions clearly and compassionately.
- Support the dental reception team by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical documentation and coding for billing purposes.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment by adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control standards at all times.
- Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures by creating a friendly atmosphere that reduces anxiety for young patients.
- Collaborate seamlessly with the team using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency during procedures.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and clinical best practices through ongoing training.
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security.
- Experience with dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles and techniques tailored for children's comfort and safety.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting confidently across various specialties like endodontics, prosthodontics, and general dentistry.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment.
- Competence in taking vital signs accurately and understanding medical terminology relevant to dental care.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining procedures to patients of all ages and collaborating effectively within a team of dental professionals.
- Experience working with dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly preferred.
