Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to maintain optimal oral health.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Assist the dentist during various procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
- Take and develop medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols are followed.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Adhere strictly to infection control protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures, to safeguard patient and staff health.
- Monitor and document patient responses during treatment, review documentation for accuracy, and update medical coding as needed for billing purposes.
- Support pediatric dentistry services by creating a welcoming environment for young patients and assisting with pediatric-specific procedures.
- Collaborate with the dental team to ensure smooth clinic operations, including chairside assisting during various procedures in general dentistry settings.
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix for scheduling, documentation review, and record management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Experience in pediatric dentistry is highly preferred to effectively care for young patients.
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to assess patient needs accurately and communicate clearly.
- Familiarity with EMR systems and medical coding ensures precise documentation for billing and insurance claims.
- Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and handle medical imaging equipment safely.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Previous experience in a dental office or clinic environment is essential for understanding workflow and clinical protocols.
- Effective documentation review skills combined with attention to detail in maintaining medical records and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards.
