What You Will Do
The Engineering Services Division (ES-DO) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative solutions in support of Los Alamos National Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. ES-DO is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Project Leader to support Engineering Services - Operations (ES-OPS).

The ES-OPS organization delivers critical capabilities in Strategic Execution. These interconnected functions ensure ES-DO operates with accountability, compliance, efficiency, and alignment to institutional priorities.

The Project Leader will report to the ES-OPS Group Leader and provide day-to-day leadership, operational oversight, and project integration across these functions. The successful candidate will play an essential role in shaping the group's vision, strengthening workforce resilience, and fostering a high-performing team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide technology investments to improve efficiency, innovation, and mission alignment
  • Oversee finance, commercialization, student engagement, professional development, and ES-CON
  • Direct engineering initiatives with strong performance metrics, reporting, planning, and compliance to DOE/LANL requirements, delivering on scope, schedule, and budget
  • Manage and resolve issue management by tracking progress, maintaining documentation, leading root cause analyses, and reporting status with risk mitigation recommendations
  • Server Management (Ventana) and Configuration Management
  • Manage the development of Inspection Management Tool

  • Advanced knowledge of and successfully demonstrated experience in all aspects of project management of non-science and non-engineering work, including defining project work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, and performance milestones; developing cost, scope, and schedule baselines; reporting cost and schedule variance.
  • Advanced knowledge of the operational discipline of the assigned project.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to project work
  • Successfully demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective internal and/or external customer relationships.
  • Successfully demonstrated experience in interacting effectively with all levels of internal and/or external personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
  • Advance knowledge in DOE/NNSA, national laboratory, or other federally regulated environment and PEMP (Performance Evaluation and Measurement Plan
  • Advance knowledge in Goal and Initiative Management
  • Advance knowledge in Configuration Management

Project Leader 4 ($125,200 - $211,300)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, qualification at the higher level includes:

  • Expert-level knowledge of and consultative experience in all aspects of project management of non-science and non-engineering work, including defining project work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, an performance milestones; developing cost, scope, and schedule baselines; reporting cost and schedule variance; and managing change control and risk.
  • Expert-level knowledge of the operational discipline of the project.
  • Expert-level knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to project work.
  • Consultative experience in developing and nurturing effective high-level internal and/or external customer relationships.
  • Consultative experience in interacting effectively with all levels of internal and/or external personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
  • Proven ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor a wide variety of team efforts to completion.
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.

Project Leader 3 Education/Experience:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Project Leader 4 Education/Experience:
Position requires a bachelor's degree in a technical field from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

- Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance:
Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test:
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position:
Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants:
Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Please refer to Policy P701 for applicant eligibility requirements.

Incentive Compensation Program:
Position at the higher level is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
