The System Administrator II plays a key role in maintaining, securing, and automating the organization's hybrid IT infrastructure across on-premises and public-cloud environments. Operating with moderate supervision, this role manages assignments of moderate to high complexity and contributes to enterprise automation and modernization efforts.
The System Administrator II designs and maintains systems that leverage AI-driven monitoring, observability, and diagnostic tools to detect anomalies, predict failures, and optimize performance. This position automates infrastructure provisioning and configuration using platforms such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation, ensuring scalable, reliable, and compliant operations.
Working collaboratively with IT, DevOps, and Security teams, the System Administrator II contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, supports cloud migration and optimization projects, and promotes the responsible use of generative and predictive AI technologies to streamline documentation, troubleshooting, and operational workflows. The ideal candidate demonstrates advanced technical proficiency, strong problem-solving skills, and a proactive learning mindset, mentoring less experienced administrators, and driving innovation in system reliability and efficiency.
Job Duties:
- Designs, implements, and maintains robust infrastructure across public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premises environments, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability.
- Develops and manages Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation for automated provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of systems.
- Utilizes configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet) to enforce consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency across environments.
- Installs, configures, and maintains all hardware and software necessary for business operations.
- Performs OS, hypervisor, and cloud resource updates in accordance with established Change Management processes.
- Triages, troubleshoots, and resolves complex break/fix issues across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, ensuring rapid recovery and minimal downtime.
- Leverages AI-driven monitoring, observability, and analytics tools to detect anomalies, predict failures, optimize performance, and reduce mean time to resolution.
- Applies AI-assisted insights and automation recommendations to improve provisioning speed, system reliability, and cost optimization.
- Analyzes and recommends systems-related hardware and software improvements, incorporating data-driven and AI-informed decision-making where appropriate.
- Collaborates with Developers, DevOps Engineers, and Security specialists to design, automate, and optimize end-to-end infrastructure workflows.
- Stays current on public cloud advancements, automation best practices, and AI-enabled infrastructure operations, recommending innovative solutions that enhance productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a passion for learning, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Supports broader team and enterprise goals by proactively contributing to initiatives outside of core responsibilities.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 3+ years' experience in a System Administrator or Infrastructure Engineer role.
- Hands-on experience administering server hardware, operating systems, and hypervisors.
- Proven experience managing and optimizing workloads across public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Demonstrated ability to design and maintain automated infrastructure provisioning and configuration pipelines using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
- Administration of hybrid IT infrastructure across on-premises, colocation, and public cloud environments (AWS required; Azure or GCP a plus).
- Automation of infrastructure provisioning using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
- Proficiency with Linux and/or Windows server administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Experience managing virtualized environments (VMware vSphere, vRealize Automation).
- Use of AI-driven monitoring and observability tools to detect anomalies, predict failures, and optimize performance.
- Application of AI-enabled platforms for diagnostics, documentation, and workflow automation.
- Strong understanding of cloud migration, cost optimization, and compliance best practices.
- Scripting proficiency (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation and task orchestration.
- Familiarity with network fundamentals, security hardening, and managed file transfer (e.g., GoAnywhere).
- Analytical problem solver with strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
