Day of AI is a rapidly growing nonprofit originally founded at the MIT RAISE ("Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Social Empowerment and Education") initiative, now operating as an independent 501(c)(3) based out of Boston/Cambridge and New York while maintaining close ties to MIT.  We empower educators and students around the world with free, equitable access to high-quality AI literacy programs.  Through our global Day of AI curriculum, which is now used by educators in more than 170 countries, we help students of all backgrounds become responsible, creative, and informed users of artificial intelligence.

Position Overview:

Day of AI is seeking a creative and mission-driven
Social Media and Design Coordinator

to help shape and grow our digital presence across platforms.  The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with experience in social media strategy, campaign execution, and visual storytelling.

This part-time role hours per week) offers the opportunity to help lead the charge on major campaigns including "Responsible AI for America's Youth," a nationwide effort to expand AI literacy through free teacher training and student competitions across all 50 states, while also showcasing Day of AI's global impact in over 170 countries.  As part of a small, fast-moving team, you'll design, write, and publish engaging content, build community across platforms, and bring to life the stories of educators, students, and families who are shaping the future of responsible AI.

Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management and Campaign Execution

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive content strategy across LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, and any other relevant platforms
  • Plan and execute content calendars tied to major initiatives such as Responsible AI for America's Youth and the America's Youth AI Festival, the culminating celebration for Responsible AI for America's Youth that will be held at MIT and the Boston area next summer.
  • Create and schedule posts, ensuring alignment with campaign milestones, events, and announcements
  • Build awareness of Day of AI's global story, highlighting partner programs and educators in countries around the world
  • Monitor engagement, respond to comments, and build relationships with partners, educators, and thought leaders

Content Creation and Storytelling

  • Write compelling copy and produce visuals (graphics, short videos, carousels, reels) that bring Day of AI's mission and stories to life
  • Repurpose blogs, press coverage, and event highlights into engaging, shareable content
  • Surface and feature educator and student success stories from both the U.S. and global programs
  • Assist in drafting newsletters, media posts, and event recaps as needed
  • Fact-check and polish key communications (web, email, and social copy) prior to publication

Design and Branding

  • Design social graphics, infographics, and digital assets consistent with Day of AI's visual identity
  • Support the development of marketing collateral for campaigns, events, and partnerships
  • Maintain a cohesive look and feel across all creative materials
  • Edit and proofread marketing copy, campaign materials, and educator resources for clarity, tone, and accuracy
  • Ensure consistency of style, grammar, and formatting across digital and print materials
  • Collaborate with program staff to refine content for different audiences (educators, families, partners)

Analytics and Growth

  • Track performance metrics (follower growth, engagement, reach) and provide reports
  • Identify growth opportunities and test new strategies to reach educators, policymakers, and partners
  • Stay current with social media trends, tools, and best practices

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in social media management, content creation, or marketing (nonprofit, education, and/or tech experience considered a plus)
  • Strong storytelling and copywriting skills with a keen eye for visual design
  • Proficiency with design tools (Canva, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)
  • Experience managing social media campaigns from concept to reporting
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for education, technology, and building an equitable, responsible AI future

Compensation and Schedule

  • Part-time: 15–30 hours/week
  • Flexible scheduling; remote work
  • Hourly rate commensurate with experience
