Director of Engineering - Mobile Channels

Boston, MA

About the Team

We're the Mobile Channels team at Klaviyo — the group behind one of our most powerful growth engines: SMS. We build systems that power billions of customer interactions, helping brands connect through timely, personalized mobile experiences.

Our work spans product development, messaging infrastructure, and AI-driven optimization. We partner closely with Product, Design, Marketing, Sales, and Support to deliver performance and innovation at global scale. Based in Boston, this team sits at the intersection of Klaviyo's AI-first strategy and our mission to make every customer connection smarter.

About the Role

You'll lead the engineering organization behind Klaviyo's Mobile Channels business — a cornerstone of our omnichannel platform and a significant revenue line. You'll own revenue responsibility for the SMS product line: aligning  system architecture & reliability with innovation & business goals.

In this role, you'll partner with senior leaders across Product, Design, and GTM to define how Klaviyo continues to lead the market in mobile messaging. You'll shape the strategy, build the systems, and grow the teams that keep Klaviyo ahead. This role is intense and rewarding — perfect for a leader who thrives in motion, raises the bar for excellence, and finds purpose in building teams that scale impact globally.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Own Klaviyo's SMS product line — driving revenue growth, gross margin, and reliability at global scale.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and GTM to define the vision for mobile within Klaviyo's omnichannel platform.
  • Lead and develop a world-class engineering organization across several specialist teams, grounded in accountability, curiosity, and technical excellence.
  • Drive innovation that deepens our competitive moat — leveraging Klaviyo's unique data advantage, AI capabilities, and cross-channel orchestration.
  • Architect for enterprise-scale reliability, security, and compliance across diverse global markets.
  • Transform workflows by putting AI at the center, building smarter systems and ways of working from the ground up.
  • You give and receive meaningful feedback, focusing on empathy, curiosity, and growth.

What We're Looking For:

  • You're an experienced engineering leader who has owned a full line of business — balancing technical strategy with commercial outcomes.
  • You think like a product leader — connecting technical decisions to customer and business impact.
  • You communicate clearly, collaborate deeply, and know how to align diverse teams around a shared goal.
  • You've led large, distributed engineering organizations and built systems for enterprise customers 10–100x larger than today's base.
  • You're energized by high standards and meaningful challenges — the kind that push you and your team to grow faster.
  • You've already experimented with AI in work or personal projects, and you're excited to dive in and learn fast. You're hungry to responsibly explore new AI tools and workflows, finding ways to make your work smarter and more efficient.
