Summary of Job: The peer support specialist provides community-based support and recovery education to individuals receiving mental health services. The peer support specialist also assists in implementing/creating a recovery environment and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engage individuals in a mental health recovery partnership to support the identification of personal hopes and dreams
- Teach mental health recovery, community engagement, and life skills using recovery tools
- Model hope, personal responsibility, and self-advocacy to demonstrate how to meet recovery goals
- Assist in the development of natural supports
- Cultivate connectedness in the person's life (self, others, the environment, and meaning and purpose)
- Coordinate with the individual's clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to support goal attainment
- Complete documentation as required by state and managed care organization guidelines
Job Requirements:
The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required to provide peer support services.
- Meet the qualifications to attend Peer Support Training and obtain Certification as a Peer Support Specialist:
- Be a self-identified individual with a mental health diagnosis and who has reached a point in their recovery pathway where they can positively support others in similar situations
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older
- High school diploma/GED
- Basic computer skills and effective communication skills
- Driver's license and reliable personal vehicle
- Understand and adhere to Recovery InSight, Inc's compliance standards as they appear in the PA Certification Board's Code of Ethical Conduct
- A commitment to ongoing personal development and professional growth.

Pay: $ $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
