Position Title: Take-Out Specialist
Position Overview: The Take-Out Specialist is responsible for managing all to-go and phone-in orders for Blu and assisting with Bistro service duties as needed. This position ensures that each guest—both residents and visitors—receives accurate, timely, and courteous service whether dining in or taking food to go. The Take-Out Specialist acts as a liaison between the kitchen and front-of-house team, ensuring smooth communication, accurate order handling, and an exceptional guest experience. Reports to Dining Services Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Arrive to work at the scheduled time in a clean, company-specified uniform.
- Answer incoming phone calls promptly and professionally; take accurate food and beverage orders.
- Confirm guest name, order details, dietary needs, food modifications, and payment method for every transaction.
- Input orders accurately into the POS system and ensure timely communication with kitchen staff.
- Assemble to-go orders neatly and according to Blu's presentation and packaging standards.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of every to-go order before it leaves the restaurant.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the to-go area, including counters, phones, printers, and staging tables.
- Monitor stock of take-out packaging supplies and notify supervisor of low inventory.
- Assist Bistro team with serving guests, making coffees, and restocking as needed.
- Uphold food safety and sanitation standards at all times, including proper handling and labeling.
- Maintain working knowledge of all menu items, ingredients, and current specials in both Blu and Bistro.
- Communicate effectively with the Dining Services Supervisor regarding guest feedback, complaints, or special requests.
- Participate in side work, opening, and closing duties as assigned.
- Attend all required department meetings and training sessions.
- Provide quality customer service in all interactions with residents, guests, and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience in a restaurant or customer service environment strongly preferred.
- Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must demonstrate a friendly, professional, and service-oriented demeanor.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE:
- Knowledge of POS systems and order entry preferred.
- Great communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle cash or charge transactions responsibly.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of teamwork.
EQUIPMENT SKILLS
- Must be able to operate and clean POS system, phone, beverage machine, and small restaurant equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods during shift.
- Able to bend, stoop, and reach overhead.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Clean, well-lit, and fast-paced restaurant environment. Must be able to withstand occasional heat and humidity when entering kitchen or cooler areas.
