We're currently seeking a passionate and experienced Full-Time Director of Human Resources. The Director of Human Resources responsibilities include supporting the mission of Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland (LSMMD) by providing professional human resources to team members, supervisors and leadership. This includes supervising various HR team members and overseeing key HR functions such as benefits administration, HRIS management, onboarding, team member relations, performance management, retention and appreciation efforts, compliance, and training.
As part of our caring and purpose-driven organization, you'll play a vital role in advancing our mission and making a meaningful impact in the lives of our residents and team members. This position follows a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

What You'll Do as a Director of Human Resources:
- Guide and supervise various members of the Human Resources team, supporting LSMMD communities.
- Manage the administration of team member benefits, including health, dental, vision, FSA, life, disability, and 403(b) retirement plans.
- Participate in benefit and wellness program strategy and planning and act as liaison with brokers and benefit providers.
- Direct HRIS management, including performance management, applicant tracking, benefits administration, ACA compliance, and payroll/HRIS data entry.
- Manage team member relations throughout the organization, advising on workplace concerns.
- Advise and coach managers on policy interpretation, performance issues, conflict resolution, and corrective action.
- Lead team member relations investigations and focus group interviews.
- In partnership with the VP, Human Resources develop and analyze HR reports related to turnover, staffing, and workforce planning. Present findings, trends, and recommendations to VP, Human Resources.
- Assist in the creation and revision of HR policies, procedures, and forms.
- Address unemployment claims and coach managers on hearing processes.
- Conduct internal and external compensation reviews and participate in salary surveys.
- Stay informed of and ensure compliance with all employment-related federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Plan and coordinate team member appreciation and recognition programs and events.
- Design, conduct, and lead onboarding, orientation, and supervisory training programs.
- Engage in continuing education and represent HR on internal/external committees and task forces.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture.
- Represent LSMMD on the workers compensation captive board.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Education | Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Preferred experience in healthcare, aging services, or nonprofit sectors.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced with HR Information Systems (HRIS).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
- Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
- Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
- Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
- Physically able to move throughout the workday, including travel between campus locations and lifting items up to 10 pounds using safe handling practices.
