This is an IN PERSON CONTRACT position in the Richmond District of San Francisco.

MODTAGE design is seeking a creative, highly motivated, proactive and detail oriented interior designer with 3-5 years of experience in a residential, interior or architectural design studio. This person should be comfortable working on projects that involve both architecture and interiors work, with some knowledge on how to take a project from demolition through construction, including interior layout and materials, to decorative installations and furnishings.

We currently have several exciting projects with lovely clients. You will be involved in all the phases of a design project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under direction & supervision, you will need to:

  • gather inspirational and concept images for projects with varying styles and design directions
  • create vision boards in Adobe Illustrator, Keynote & Canva
  • drafting using AutoCAD; generating plans, elevations, schedules and details
  • help create full construction documentation sets per interior architectural standards
  • provide detailed drawings for custom furniture, cabinetry, doors, windows & finish transitions
  • source interesting furniture, fixtures, art, and accessories, online, with our trade accounts, or in person at local shops and SFDC showrooms per client budget requirements
  • request lead times, quotes, and specifications from vendors
  • place orders once approved by clients and follow up on orders
  • attend client meetings
  • take notes in client meetings to maintain a clear record of discussions, decisions & action items
  • take notes in internal discussions for delegated tasks & action items
  • prepare both digital & physical presentations for clients, incorporating design schemes, detailed specifications, concept imagery, furniture layouts, finishes, and drawings.
  • track your time throughout each day and stay on target for estimated hours
  • field survey of client spaces
  • work in tandem with external subs and projects partners such as; contractors, subcontractors, architects, craftspeople, vendors, workrooms, etc.
  • run project-specific errands in San Francisco, Marin, the Peninsula and the East Bay
  • research new vendors, products, and materials
  • meet with vendors to stay informed on the latest collections and products
  • assist with product receiving and inspecting
  • assist with installations and photoshoots
  • assist in managing and organizing internal materials library
  • prepare, manage, and maintain all project binders and Dropbox filing per office standards

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2-4 years of full-time experience in a high-end residential interior design studio doing remodeling and decorating projects (non-negotiable)
  • Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (non-negotiable)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Illustrator
  • Proficiency in general office software such as spreadsheets, documents and presentation software
  • Experience in Studio Designer software
  • Experience with home remodels, kitchen and bathroom remodels (non-negotiable)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (clear, proactive, and direct): you will be communicating with vendors and clients and representing our small business every day
  • Professional attitude
  • Ability to problem solve and pivot when issues arise while keeping a positive attitude and always with our clients' best interests in mind
  • Time management skills: the ability to know how much effort and time to put into tasks, to know which tasks to prioritize, and to understand when there is an urgent need
  • Creative, curious with outside-the-box thinking
  • Detail-oriented (non-negotiable), you must be able to stay on top of all the moving parts of each project and to follow through
  • Experience sourcing from trade vendors and knowledge of the San Francisco Design Center showrooms and local shops
  • Ability to source efficiently, within a set budget and within the practical parameters set for the project
  • 3D experience a plus
  • Valid driver's license and insurance with a reliable vehicle

MODTAGE design is a full-service high-end interior design firm based in San Francisco, California. We design custom tailored interiors and pride ourselves on creating a unique environment for each client based on both the architectural design and the clients aesthetic preferences. Offering a full spectrum of design services from conceptual design through final installation, MODTAGE design scope of work can range from a complete gut and remodel of the interiors to putting the final touches on furnishings and accessories. Our work has been published in Architectural Digest, Dwell, The San Francisco Chronicle & The New York Times.

Our Principal, Gretchen Murdock, has been working in the design industry in San Francisco for over 20 years, getting her start in larger architectural firms, which gave her a strong core understanding of design, processes & best practices. Gretchen opened MODTAGE design to work with individuals and families, creating homes that reflect their personal preferences and a retreat from their busy lives. Her husband, Roberto, joined in the firm early on to assist in operations.

Our studio is located in San Francisco in the Central Richmond District at the top floor of our home. We are a small family run business and seek to add to our close-knit team. We work hard but also value ours and our teams lives outside the office, whether to spend time with family, travel or enjoy the various activities our beautiful city offers. Our office boasts a creative and team-oriented atmosphere and we are excited to welcome a new member to our team
